NOTICE OF FEE CHANGES - Effective July 8, 2013

As a result of the enactment of California SB 75, chaptered June 27, 2013, the Los Angeles Superior Court Fee Schedule has been changed to reflect the various civil filing fees that have increased or changed.

Increased Fees
· The fee for mailing a Plaintiff’s Claim to each defendant in a small claims action has been increased from $10 to $15. [Code Civ. Proc. §116.232]
· The fee for exemplification of a record has been increased from $20 to $50. [Gov. Code § 70628]

Changed Fee
Government Code section 6806(a)(1)(A) changes the Fee Schedule description for the existing $30 fee for services of an official court reporter, pursuant to Section 269 of the Code of Civil Procedure, to reflect “$30 for each proceeding lasting less than one hour.”

Section 6806(a)(1)(B) has also changed to reflect $382 for any proceeding lasting one hour or more, during a onehalf day session.

PLEASE TAKE FURTHER NOTICE THAT also effective immediately, the Los Angeles Superior Court, Central District, is only accepting two (2) filings per person. This has caused much longer lines and wait times than normal. It is unknown how long this "two filings per person" mandate shall be in effect. There is no official notice, only the sign at the court's filing window.

*This is also typical of virtually every other Court in California with the exception of Orange County.

Happy Holidays from all of us at SFVLSA!

07/03/2012

We wanted to let you know that late last week Governor Brown signed the fiscal year 2012-2013 state budget and related "trailer bills." One of those trailer bills contained various increases to the "Superior Court of California Statewide Civil Fee Schedule" as well as a change to the deadline for making jury deposits.

Changes to fees are effective immediately, although not all courts have updated their respective sites yet.

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society

May 15, 2012

Dear LSI Members,

It is with great honor that we endorse San Fernando Valley LSA's (SFVLSA) member, Heather Edwards, for the office of LSI Treasurer. Heather has been a fervent supporter of The Leukemia
& Lymphoma Society (LLS) for many years, and has made a large impact on our mission to cure blood cancers and help patients and families.

As Team Captain representing the Alpert, Barr & Grant team for LLS's Light The Night fundraising Walk, Heather has rallied the support of her firm to raise funds and recruit team members to participate. As a member of our Woodland Hills Executive Committee for the past two years, Heather has garnered support from colleagues and contacts in her network to help us grow our presence in the San Fernando Valley, and secure new partnerships. Her support in 2011 resulted in over $5,000 in new revenue and in-kind donations! Through her continued support this year, she has already helped us identify new partners.

Heather's ability to conduct such effective outreach on behalf of LLS is testament to the positive relationships she has developed within and beyond her workplace. It also proves that when Heather commits to something, she will wholeheartedly and reliably devote herself to her responsibilities.

Heather has been a key volunteer for LLS and she is a joy to work with - she is professional, compassionate, and generous with her time and energy. It is therefore with deep gratitude for all she has done for our organization, that we are proud to endorse Heather for the office of LSI Treasurer.

Sincerely,

San Fernando Valley Legal Secretaries Association (SFVLSA) - Welcome 05/10/2012

Dear LSI Members,

San Fernando Valley Legal Secretaries Association (SFVLSA) is very proud to endorse member HEATHER EDWARDS for the office of LSI Treasurer. Heather has been a legal secretary since 1990, working in various practices and firms and has been with her present employer since 2000. As an SFVLSA member since 1991, Heather served three terms as President (twice when pregnant!), including when SFVLSA hosted LSI’s Annual May Conference at the Universal City Marriott. The other offices she has held for SFVLSA show her versatility and willingness to do whatever she can for the association. Her qualifications are extraordinary as shown by her resume alone.

Heather’s service to LSI is extensive, and, again, demonstrates her ability to do just about anything and do it well. Heather was awarded the President’s Award for Superior Leadership in 2006, a singular honor. Heather’s service to LSI includes, most recently, three terms as LSI’s Liaison to the Law Practice Management & Technology Section of the State Bar of California. It is noteworthy that Heather is filling a position previously held by past LSI Presidents. This section with the really long name is at the forefront of what is innovative and new at the State Bar, and Heather’s involvement as LSI Liaison and as a voting member of the Section has been outstanding. She was involved in the first “green” electronic issue of The Bottom Line for LPMT members and is currently Co-Membership Chair.

In her personal life, Heather has earned both an Associative Art Degree from Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising, and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Health & Human Services. She has been married to Ernie for 20 years, and has four children (her oldest goes to West Point this fall as a cadet). She has been involved with her children’s schools and active in various community groups. And where else will you find a mom who plays competitive basketball?

Heather has been endorsed by associations throughout the state, including: San Fernando Valley LSA, San Francisco LPA, San Diego LSA, Rio Hondo District LPA, San Gabriel Valley LSA, Sacramento LSA, Conejo Valley LPA, Long Beach LPA, Marin County LPA, Los Angeles LSA, Imperial County LPA, Los Angeles County Forum of Legal Secretaries, and Heather’s Boss: Lee Kanon Alpert, APLC, founding Principal of Alpert, Barr & Grant, APLC.

We invite you to join all of us in voting for Heather Edwards for LSI Treasurer on May 19.

Sincerely,

The Members and Board of Directors of San Fernando Valley LSA

Alpert, Barr & Grant - Business, Real Estate, Creditors' Rights, Construction and Government Relatio 05/02/2012

May 2, 2012

To the Members of LSI:

It is my privilege and pleasure to endorse San Fernando Valley LSA's ("SFVLSA") member HEATHER EDWARDS for the office of LSI Treasurer. Heather has been my legal assistant for over twelve years and has been exemplary in the performance of her duties, assisting others in their needs, working extensively with clients, staffs of elected officials, appointed and elected officials themselves and most importantly my family and her own colleagues.

A more responsible, thoughtful and effective person could not be selected. Her ability to balance her personal life, her professional life and the organizations she is associated with (LSI, SFVLSA, California State Bar, PTA and Charitable) is amazing.

Please consider this a ringing endorsement by someone who knows Heather, her capabilities and her skill set exceedingly well an elect Heather Edwards to the position of LSI Treasurer!
