The Georgia Department of Transportation will temporarily suspend all interstate lane closures in anticipation for increased traffic in the metro Atlanta area during the spring break season.

According to GDOT, interstate lane closures will be temporarily suspended on all interstates from 10 p.m. on Friday, April 3 to 5 a.m. on Monday, April 6.

The department reminded commuters that while lane closures are suspended, construction crews may still be active near roadways, and some long-term lane closures could remain in place for safety reasons. Additionally, emergency or incident-related lane closures may still occur at any time, as needed.

GDOT also advised drivers to stay alert, follow road signs, and exercise caution, particularly near active or currently inactive work zones.

I'm sorry for the late notice about this project. RZM2024-00011 proposes putting 196 apartment units on about 5 acres at the corner of Mall of GA Blvd and Gravel Springs Rd (Hwy 324).https://www.gwinnettcounty.com/static/departments/planning/pdf/2024-activity/RZM2024-00011.pdf is a link to the full rezoning application. THIS WILL BE ON THE AGENDA TOMORROW NIGHT.
Project Summary:
The applicant requests rezoning of a 4.97-acre property from RA-200 to HRR for an Independent Living Retirement Community, including:
• A 5-6 story building with 196 units at a density of 39.41 units per acre.
• 98 one-bedroom, 66 two-bedroom, and 32 three-bedroom units. • Exterior building materials of stone veneer, cementitious lap siding, and cementitious panels.
• 222 parking spaces comprised of surface parking and a 2-story parking deck in the center of the site, including five electric vehicle charging spaces.
• 0.69 acres of usable open space surrounding the building including a community garden, dog run, and picnic areas.
• A full-access entrance from Mall of Georgia Boulevard aligned with Indian Chief Drive.
• A deceleration lane and a left-turn lane from Mall of Georgia Boulevard into the site.
• A temporary fire access road from Mall of Georgia Boulevard located beside the eastern property line.
• Interparcel access to the adjacent hotel property through the southwest corner of the site.
• A 5-foot-wide sidewalk, grass strip with streetlights and street trees, and a 10-foot wide landscape strip along the property frontage.
• A 5-foot-wide sidewalk connecting the front of the building to the multi-use path.
• A dumpster enclosure located behind the parking lot.
• A stormwater facility to the rear of the site behind the building.
This project suffers from the same malady most do these days: too much density for the road it will be located on.
