✨Student Spotlight Time✨

Today we would like to highlight Dariana Candelario! Dariana is an undergraduate student in the Special Education and Childhood Education program, she has a concentration in Spanish.

She has always wanted to be a teacher, she would play “school” for fun as a kid and her passion never left. She took a small detour at first, taking time to support her spouse to reach his career goals and now that he has achieved them he is supporting hers.

She is highly inspired by Dr.Reichenberg, she has pushed her to grow and reignite her love for literacy. Dariana’s teaching philosophy is rooted in empathy, access and belonging. She is a former ELL student and a mother of two children with disabilities, she understands the importance of feeling seen, supported and capable. She hopes to create a classroom where every student feels understood and empowered to succeed.

Outside of Buffalo State she is a Buffalo Bills season ticket holder, a Harley-Davidson rider , and an extreme sports fan!

✨Student Spotlight Time!✨
Today we would like to spotlight Sarah Sefried! Sarah is a graduate student in the Childhood Education (1-6) program.
She came to pursue teaching due to her own positive experiences within education.
She was greatly inspired by Professor Dr.Dennis Nike who she felt great supported by. Her teaching philosophy is oriented around a growth mindset and fostering a student centered academic environment in which students are empowered through learning.
She enjoys spending time in nature hiking, museums and historical sites. She loves to travel and explore cultures outside of her own, she has studied abroad and will be student teaching in Italy!

This past October four teacher candidates (2 Early/Childhood Education and Literacy, 2 English Education) traveled to Edgecomb, Maine to participate in a unique internship experience at the Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL), a Pre-K to grade 8 demonstration school "dedicated to the development and dissemination of authentic, joyful methods for teaching across the curriculum."

UFLI (University of Florida Literacy Institute) picked Buffalo to do their very first Pop-Up Academy on November 8-9 at the Buffalo Zoo. BSU faculty and teacher candidates dug deep into the Science of Reading and learned background knowledge and implementation of the UFLI Foundations program.

UFLI provides intensive professional development focused on deepening educator knowledge and enhancing classroom application of evidence-based instructional methods.

Teacher tailgate 2025!
