DEAL Expo 2014

The DEAL Expo is tomorrow! We're getting excited! Remember, those participants who have not yet emailed their availability regarding the Celebration of Academic Excellence to their respective point of contact should do so. We will be confirming this at check-in tomorrow. The Elite 10 from the DEAL Expo will have the opportunity to move on to the Celebration. The Celebration of Academic Excellence will be held April 23, 2014 from 12-4pm. This is a great opportunity to further showcase your work on a University-wide scale and receive the University's top undergraduate honor.

With the DEAL Expo less than one week away, we are pleased to announce our final judge - UB Alumnus, Dan Curry!

Dan Curry has been the VP of Marketing and Sales for the Chicago-based firm, Color Communications, Inc. for the past 22 years and currently works out of the Buffalo office. Previously, he held positions as VP Finance for Laclede Manufacturing, Controller for Kayak Manufacturing, Manager of Cost and Operations Accounting at Delaware North Companies, and Auditor at PricewaterhouseCoopers. He graduated with a B.S. in Accounting in '79 and an MBA in '84, both from the University at Buffalo. He is an active Bulls fan to this day and can be found tailgating before home football games in the Special Events lot next to the Flint Apartments.

Hope everyone's spring break is off to a great start! We are pleased to announce that the fourth judge for the DEAL Expo is Professor G. Lawrence Sanders, an outstanding faculty member who is dedicated to actively supporting student innovation.

G. Lawrence Sanders, PhD, is a professor in the Department of Management Science and Systems in the School of Management at the State University of New York at Buffalo. He has also served as a department chair and the chair of the PhD program in the School of Management. He has taught MBA courses in the Peoples Republic of China and Singapore. His research interests are in the ethics and economics of digital piracy, systems success measurement, cross-cultural implementation research, systems development and decision processes.

He has published papers in outlets such as The Journal of Business, MIS Quarterly, Information Systems Research, the Journal of Management Information Systems, the Journal of Strategic Information Systems, the Journal of Management Systems, Decision Support Systems, and Decision Sciences. He has also published a book on database design and co-edited two other books.

Happy snow day! Is everyone ready for the third judge of the DEAL Expo? The next judge is UB School of Management Alumni Kitt Pizzutelli!

In July, Kitt moved to New York City for M&T Bank’s Management Development Program. The best part of her job is learning about small business clients. Professor Star always says, “There are riches in niches.” Now Kitt can see what he means. Competing in the DEAL Expo is the first step toward turning your idea into a sweet reality. Introducing our second judge, Administrative Director Carrie Gardner!

Carrie is responsible for overall direction of the internship program. She meets with students seeking credit for participation in internships, works with employers setting up internship programs, screens all internships posted with the Career Resource Center for credit eligibility and submits academic grades for all student interns. Carrie is available for employer training programs regarding mentoring and internships.

The DEAL Expo is proud to announce its first judge, University at Buffalo alumni and professor Marc Adler!

Since graduating from the University at Buffalo in 1982 with a Master of Arts in Geography and an MBA, he’s worked with clients in manufacturing, education, technology, professional services, retail, import/export, tourism, and nonprofit sectors. In 2012, Marc opened Why Not Marketing and has focused on helping small- to medium-size companies improve their marketing efforts. Marc has also been active as a volunteer with several WNY organizations such as the Buffalo Zoo, UB Alumni Association, Leadership Buffalo, and the UB School of Management Alumni Association.

What is the DEAL Expo 2014?

The DEAL Expo 2014 is the second annual Undergraduate School of Management (SoM) poster competition. Participants in the Expo are invited to create a 41” x 35” poster to display successful class projects, internship experiences, research efforts and creative management activities. On March 29th, the competitors will showcase their work during the spring SoM Spring Open House. A panel of judges will evaluate the presenters and award cash prizes for the first, second and third place finishers. At the same time, the prospective students attending the Open House will be invited to vote for a special “Open House Choice,” distinction. Additionally, an “Elite Ten” posters from the Expo will be advanced to the University’s Celebration of Academic Excellence.
