Good Evening,
We wanted to let everyone know that we have made the disappointing decision to cancel this year's Pole Creek Challenge Races.

Due to poor snow conditions, the 2026 Pole Creek Challenge 5K, 10K, and 20K races scheduled for February 28th have been cancelled. The Total Distance Challenge is still ongoing.

Large portions of the race routes are void of snow, and even with a couple of inches in the forecast, conditions are unlikely to improve enough to hold a safe and enjoyable event.

We will be reaching out to those who have already registered to discuss their options.

Thanks for your support and we hope for better conditions in 2027!

Happy new year with wishes for a snow filled future!

The trails at Pole Creek were rolled and packed Friday morning 1/2/26. Don’t be completely dismayed at the lack of snow in town and assume that the trails are bare. We have a long way to go before tracks are set, but there is definitely more good than bad up there.

If everyone will do their part by removing and tossing the obstacles that are found on the trail, that will help out immensely. Enjoy!

Good Afternoon! Our groomers were able to get out on the trails today and sent the following report:

The Pole Creek ski trails were rolled and packed early Monday morning 12/22/25. Nature has been a bit of a challenge to work with lately with warm temps, minimal snowfall, and epic wind. That being said, 5-6” fell this past weekend and gave us something to work with. The early season rolling/packing goal is to establish a firm base that will help accommodate our groomed trails and set tracks for the rest of the season. We are far from being polished, but it is a start.

Ski with caution as hidden obstacles are only a few inches under the snow. Speaking of obstacles, several trees were toppled by the recent winds as well as many small branches litter the trails. We will continue to remove larger problems, but everyone can assist by tossing the small problems away from the trails. That being said, if you come across a trail blocking obstacle (such as a freshly fallen tree), please email us and we will address it as soon as we are able.

Happy Holidays and enjoy! Keep an eye out in the coming weeks for some exciting updates and announcements!

Winter Gear Swap this weekend in Sheridan, benefitting the Sheridan High School Nordic Team. Check it out! Note-- EMIT technologies address is 2571 N. Main (typo on the poster)

Good morning and happy Friday!

Black Mountain Nordic & the SHS Nordic Team are co-hosting the annual Sheridan Gear Swap, and we’re currently accepting high-quality gear! This is the perfect opportunity to sell or find new-to-you winter sports equipment, including skis, snowboards, boots, and poles. We are also looking for other outdoor essentials such as snowshoes, basic camping gear, and most general outdoor apparel and equipment. Please ensure all items are in good, usable condition.

Please note that gear must be dropped off on Friday and no gear will be accepted earlier or on Saturday. The Sheridan Sports Stop will also be on hand with new gear as well, making this the perfect day to get all your winter shopping done before the season starts. If you have any questions about eligible items or the event itself, please don’t hesitate to reach out!

The event is free to attend, but if you want to have special access and beat the lines you can pay $10 for the early bird special. This gives you 1 hour (7:00-8:00 pm) to sn**ch up any hot items that may go quickly.

There will be a 1 dollar fee to sell items, unless they are donated. The seller will receive 80% of the sale price, while the remaining 20% goes directly to SHS Nordic Team. You can pay with cash, check or cards.

When: Saturday, November 8th – 7 am – 1 pm

Gear Drop Off: Friday, November 7th 12:00 – 6:30 pm

Location: EMIT – 2571 N. Main St. Sheridan, WY (Drop off & Gear Swap Location)

Hello Ski Enthusiasts, we have a Pole Creek Workday planned for this Tuesday, August 5th!

If you love great cross country skiing conditions in the winter, help us make great trails in the summer! Meet outside the US Forest Service office in Buffalo (1415 Fort ST) at 9 AM.

Bring handtools (saw, shovel, loppers, etc.) gloves, water, and a lunch, and anything else you think would be helpful in removing errant trees and rocks. We will caravan up to the ski area.

We look forward to working with you while whipping some trails into shape!

Sorry for the short notice, but summer has slipped past us and the plans fell into place quickly.

Thanks to everyone who came to Raise a Glass on Friday-- the debut of Powder Pass Pale Ale was a hit! The evening was a lot of fun and a great fundraiser for us. Special thanks to Bond's Brewing, and those who donated auction items, purchased beers, and bid in the auction. A great time was had by all!

At the event, we announced another fundraiser: PPNC Merchandise Sales! We are working with Get It Got It print shop in Buffalo to sell shirts and hats to show off your PPNC pride. Place your order through the link below by March 16 to get in on the first round of ordering. Proceeds from the sale will benefit the club's general fund: https://shop.getgotprinting.com/PowderPassNordicClub/shop/home

Finally, check out this report from our groomers:
Thursday’s storm has extended the skiing at Pole Creek for a little while longer. The majority of the trail system has some of the best coverage of the winter season. Other places are thin and will have to be avoided. If you are headed up to maximize the last of your ski season, I would highly recommend early morning or later afternoon. Mid morning or afternoon temperatures will soften the snow up significantly and the stickiness factor will be challenging. Is this the final pack and groom of the season? Only nature knows.

Thanks for reading and we hope to see some of you sporting PPNC duds soon!
