Hi Everyone,
We hope this email finds you well.
We are writing to inform you about a movement going down this Wednesday as a response to the things that have been going on on campus. This is NOT abut the sailing team, it is about the reoccurring racism and the constant silencing from both the administration and students alike.
On Wednesday November 4th, 2015 we will hold an all day silent protest. We will be wearing duct tape over our mouths. Whenever someone tries to speak to us we will hand them a piece of paper with a statement explaining what we are doing and why. We were inspired by movements such as the NO H8 Campaign. This protest is a representation of how we are constantly silenced.
Game plan:
-WEAR ALL BLACK
-Wednesday morning starting at 7:30am (for those of us who wake up early) you will be able to pick up your duct tape and the slips of paper from the Russworm library, conference room, and kitchen.
-You do not have to wear the duct tape in class if you do not feel comfortable doing so but please have it on for the picture.
-Meet at 4:10 pm in Smith Union for a student photo and to begin the march. From Smith Union we will walk over to the Dean's office. We will file into the office in a straight line and back out. The event will officially be over after we leave the Dean's office but feel free to keep the duct tape on for as long as possible.
Extra Notes:
-Please give it as much publicity as possible on Facebook and other social media. Please use the hashtag
-NO VIOLENCE at all. We know people are angry but this is a nonviolent protest. Some people expressed concerns as we were planning this so we will ask security to be around.
-If you know you have professors who may be difficult, please email them ahead of time and let them know.
-Please make sure your lips are moisturized before you put on the duct tape.
Much love,
Concerned Students
PLEASE FORWARD THIS EMAIL TO YOUR RESPECTIVE GROUPS, SPORTS TEAMS, FLOORMATES, ETC...anyone who you think will be with it.

A lot of us are hurting right now after the Eric Garner grand jury decision in NYC and the events in Ferguson and so many other cases of police brutality and racism in this country. We should not stop talking about it, so the folks at 18 Million Rising made this image of something I said in my joke “2042 & the White Minority.”

Tonight at 6:15pm, Bowdoin students dropped to the ground for 4.5 minutes in both Thorne and Moulton, in memory of Michael Brown and the 4.5 hours he was left on the ground after Darren Wilson killed him. This die-in was in memory of all black men killed by police brutality in America and to raise awareness of the very racial injustices that exist within the Bowdoin community.

A vicious cycle of events that follows each death of an innocent black person, reminding us that we cannot stand by and stay silent.
"We organize. We march. We find out what we need to do next to make change happen because we’re sick of this s**t and we need it to stop. Because when stage 1 happens again, we’re left in the same rage cycle, left to figure out why the hell we’re still fighting for basic human rights."

The Stages of What Happens When There's Injustice Against Black People | Awesomely Luvvie
Every time a Black person is beaten or killed senselessly by a cop or vigilante, there are certain things we can predict to happen. Here's 10 of them.

Grand jury brings no charges on NYC police officer who used a chokehold to restrain Eric Garner, an unarmed black man who died after a confrontation. This is less than two weeks after the grand jury failed to indict Darren Wilson.
No Charges in Eric Garner Chokehold Case for Officer
A Staten Island grand jury declined to charge a white New York City police officer who used a chokehold to restrain Mr. Garner during a confrontation that led to the man’s death.
