Steph Curry is eligible to sign another Warriors extension starting today.
I think he should wait.
Not because Steph should leave Golden State. And not because he “owes” the Warriors a discount.
The biggest reason is simple: why decide before you have more data?
In our recent conversation with UCSF orthopedic surgeon Dr. Nirav Pandya, he explained something fascinating about Steph’s “runner’s knee”: managing Curry may not simply be about reducing his minutes.
It’s about the load within those minutes.
Mike Dunleavy Jr. also acknowledged this week that the Warriors have to manage Steph’s knee, other injuries and age, calling the situation “delicate.”
So why determine Steph’s next salary now?
If the knee remains an issue this season, maybe next summer becomes an opportunity for a “soft reset” — Steph adjusts his salary and the Warriors gain more flexibility to put a championship roster around him.
If the knee is healthy and Steph is still Steph? Great. Choose the number accordingly.
Either way, waiting gives Steph + the Warriors something valuable:
More information. More flexibility. More optionality.
And the goal isn’t saving ownership money. It’s giving Steph the best possible chance to chase Ring No. 5. 🏆
