🎥 NEW VIDEO: All THREE Yaxel and Steve Kerr interviews from Warriors–Lakers in Las Vegas, including BOTH Kerr's pregame and postgame scrums!

Yax gives an update on his rolled ankle, then tells the hilarious story of preparing to guard Luka — only to find himself banging around with 7-foot-2 Walker Kessler instead.

But perhaps more importantly, Yaxel openly acknowledges his defensive mistakes and how much he's still learning about NBA positioning, coverages and trusting his teammates. Love that self-awareness from a rookie! 🫶💙💛

Meanwhile, Kerr says Yax is looking increasingly likely to start on Opening Night, but acknowledges that the Warriors' ex*****on is still a work in progress.

🏀 STEVE KERR ON PORZINGIS, BRANDON WILLIAMS & 90 TURNOVERS!

Well, actually 84 turnovers through four preseason games — but Kerr's estimate wasn't far off! 😅

One of the most fascinating things Kerr said at practice was that the old Steph/Klay/KD could get away with playing chaotic basketball because they had more talent than everybody else. Today's Golden State Warriors? Not so much.

As a former coach myself, I find that risk/reward discussion particularly interesting. You don't want to take the creativity out of basketball, but making the simple pass is sometimes the difference between winning and losing.

Kerr also had some revealing comments about:

🏀 Kristaps Porzingis — His expected return to the facility to meet with Rick Celebrini and the performance staff. Wishing KP all the best!

🏀 BRANDON WILLIAMS — Kerr explicitly called him the backup point guard and compared his explosiveness to Leandro Barbosa. But ball security remains a concern. Could LJ Cryer eventually challenge him for minutes?

🏀 THE STARTING FIVE — Kerr is leaning toward Stephen Curry, Podz, Gui, Yaxel and Draymond Green, with Al Horford anchoring the defense off the bench.

Steve Kerr said the Golden State Warriors had “90 turnovers” in four preseason games. 😬

The actual number was 84, but his point stands!

In his latest practice Q&A, Kerr explained why the Steph/Klay/KD could afford to play a chaotic, high-risk style of basketball — and why today’s team simply can’t get away with the same mistakes.

A fascinating admission about how he’s had to reimagine the Warriors’ offense.

Three other things:

🏀 KRISTAPS PORZINGIS — Kerr expected him back at the facility on October 13 to meet with Rick Celebrini and the performance team, but declined to discuss his availability or private circumstances. Wishing KP well!

🏀 THE WARRIORS CAME BACK FROM 20 DOWN. SO WHY DIDN’T IT FEEL LIKE A CELEBRATION?

Even as Yaxel Lendeborg helped spark the comeback, De’Anthony Melton collected SIX steals and Will Richard hit three fourth-quarter triples, our Let’s Go Warriors Watch Party live chat was surprisingly quiet.

Maybe we were still stung by that dreadful second quarter and the 20 turnovers that came with another uneven preseason performance. Steve Kerr certainly wasn’t satisfied with the ex*****on afterward.

🏀 DOWN 20. WON BY 12! WARRIORS 101, LAKERS 89!

What a strange, entertaining preseason game in Las Vegas! The Warriors trailed by 20 in the third quarter, then outscored the Lakers 51-26 in the second half to pull away.

⭐ Yaxel Lendeborg was a big part of the comeback, contributing hustle, offensive rebounds and some excellent chemistry with Charles Bassey. His defense is still a work in progress, particularly at the point of attack and on the help side, but we loved the energy.

🔥 Will Richard hit THREE fourth-quarter triples, finishing 3-for-4 from deep. De’Anthony Melton had SIX steals!

😬 The concerns? Another 20 turnovers, 10 missed free throws and an offense that clearly misses Draymond Green’s organization.

Steve Kerr was candid afterward: “We’re not anywhere close to where we want to be, but we are working on the right things.”

Yaxel Lendeborg’s last game gave us a LOT to think about:

23 PTS • 10 REB • 6 AST 🔥

Stephen Curry deferred to him when he liked the matchup. Draymond Green told him to GO. And afterward, Steve Kerr said the Golden State Warriors are going to play through Yaxel “a lot” this year.

That’s the exciting part.

Tonight against the Lakers, I’m especially watching the other side of the equation: Yaxel’s DEFENSE. 🛡️

Can he stay in front at the point of attack? Can he make the right help reads? The physical tools are clearly there — now we get another chance to see the processing develop in real time.

Fresh off signing his 5-year, $110 million extension with the Golden State Warriors, Podz talked about what the contract means to him and his family, what he learned from Shai Gilgeous-Alexander about training, and the confidence he's developed through hard work.

Meanwhile, Steve Kerr had some revealing comments about Yaxel Lendeborg:

NOTE: THIS DESCRIPTION WILL BE REPLACED WITH CHAPTERS/TIMESTAMPS ONCE THE LIVE IS FINISHED 🚨 Tonight we’re doing a full Warriors Xs & Os film study on Yaxel Lendeborg’s defense.

The offense has been exciting right away. The bigger question — and the more important long-term question — is on the other end: Can Yaxel defend well enough, quickly enough, to earn Steve Kerr’s trust in meaningful minutes?

We’ll go through the actual clips and break down what happened, including:

• point-of-attack reps
• help defense reads
• transition defense
• getting beat on first steps
• when he bites on fakes
• when he’s a step late rotating
• the possessions where he actually does things well and why

🔬 We’ll use clips from preseason action, especially the Lakers and Kings games, plus the couple Hawaii clips I already pulled before League Pass expired.

This won’t just be “good defense / bad defense.”
We’ll slow it down and look at the details:
stance, angle, footwork, timing, recognition and overall team context.

Examples we’ll likely study include:
• Keegan Murray getting Yaxel to bite early
• the Zach LaVine transition sequence where the help came late
• other point-of-attack possessions against real NBA creators
• the broader question of whether Yaxel projects better as a helper, a switchable forward, or something in between
