Flutist/composer Michel Gentile’s debut recording as a leader, from his ensemble “Flow,” (you’ll hear why), is Light Of Day, and features Gentile on flute, alto flute, bass flute & piccolo, with Mike McGinnis on clarinet, Jacob Garchik on trombone, Chris Lightcap on bass and Tom Rainey on drums.

Acclaimed drummer, composer, and bandleader Rob Garcia’s new album presents his new group, Sizzle Ensemble, which also serves as the album title (you’ll hear why). Sizzle Ensemble features Garcia with Noah Preminger on tenor saxophone, Shane Endsley on trumpet, Gary Versace on piano & electric piano and Kim Cass on bass.

Air Songs is both a return and a new chapter — a project that feels intentionally curated, intimate in its instrumentation, and expansive in its emotional reach. Redhage Ferber recently shared that she went through a phase of intense listening to recordings featuring her collaborators — a deep-dive that shaped the spirit of the record. On Air Songs, she explores a distinctive sonic niche, pairing the electric edge of Meza’s guitar with the acoustic warmth and texture of Caswell’s violin and hardanger fiddle, alongside Redhage Ferber’s own cello. Anchoring and colouring the sound is Boccato’s earthy, imaginative percussion set-up, with the percussionist contributing to three tracks.

Emmanuel Michael, the youngest voice and already a fixture in Ambrose Akinmusire’s circle, occupies the left channel with startling clarity and a harmonic vocabulary that nods to Lage Lund without parroting him. Slocum takes the right channel and takes up less space than you’d expect. Six of seven cuts are first takes — and you can hear it. The title track, built from a winding bass line in mixed meters rather than a melody, lets Grenadier do the cartography. 'Yerazel' (Armenian for 'to dream') is the quiet heart of the record.
