Bused for Integration 1960's - 1980's
My name is Cathie Wright-Lewis, a native of the Brownsville section of Brooklyn and I'm reaching out to people like me who were bused to white schools.
The school system in NYC today has quietly reverted to segregation. As a child, I was bused to a white school with many others to integrate schools and obtain academic equality. Apparently, we were appeased for a very short time in history. I'm writing a book to share the experiences of child activists who were bused to white neighborhoods in the name of integration and the teacher strike in 1968

I was blessed last week to interview the incomparable Father John Powis formerly of Our Lady of Presentation and community board member during the uprising at JHS 271. At 83, he's still a soft-spoken rebel.
