'The first thing I do with a young fighter is explain fear. Most people don’t know much about fear. They think it’s a sign of being yellow. But fear is normal. It’s like fire. lf you let it get out of control, it will destroy you and everything around you. lf you can learn how to control it, you can make it work for you. Fear is just nature’s way of preparing you to fight.'

"It's tough, I miss him every day, what a guy, we all do But it's not just a trainer, as a man, my dad was unbelievable. Even outside of boxing, he was my friend as well. We were boxer and trainer in the gym but as soon as that bell goes, we'd have a cup of tea and go on about normal life. We would just leave that bit behind. That's how we kept going.

'When you saw me in the boxing ring fighting, it wasn't just so I could beat my opponent. My fighting had a purpose. I had to be successful in order get people to listen to the things I had to say. I was fighting to win the world heavyweight title so I could go out in the streets and speak my mind. I wanted to go to the people, where unemployment, drugs, and poverty were part of everyday life. I wanted to be a champion who was accessible to everyone. I hoped to inspire others to take control of their lives and to live with pride and self-determination. l thought perhaps if they saw that l was living my life the way l chose to live it - without fear and with determination - they might dare to take the risks that could set them free.'

I'm often asked how I managed to unify the world titles at 49. People call it a miracle. I call it discipline.
I've never touched alcohol. Never done drugs. While others were living a dissolute life, I was at the gym, training. Every single day. No regrets.
I grew up on the streets of Philadelphia. I went to prison. They wrote me off before I even got started. But that's where they were wrong. Prison didn't break me. It forged me.
When I knocked out Felix Trinidad in 2001, they said it was luck. When I beat Oscar De La Hoya in 2004, they said it was a fluke. When I unified the WBA and IBF titles against Beibut Shumenov at 49… they finally shut up.
I didn't beat my opponents in the ring. I beat them in life. In the morning, they slept in. At night, I stayed disciplined.
The oldest unified champion in boxing history. Not bad for a kid from the streets of Philadelphia.
Age is just a number. It's all about mental strength.

Mike Tyson: 🗣️ “Mayweather isn’t the GOAT. I prefer watching Pacquiao.”
“Floyd is a great fighter, make no mistake. He had 50 fights. But Sugar Ray Robinson had 40, lost once, then went on a 78-fight winning streak. Julio Cesar Chavez Sr. was 89-0 before his first loss.”
“Don’t talk to me about the ‘greatest of all time’ with a 50-0 record. Chavez had 90 fights. He fought eight times a year, against any opponent in the rankings. He didn’t pick and choose his opponents.”
“Pacquiao moved up eight weight classes. He fought everyone. That’s what a true champion is.”
Do you agree with Tyson? Is Pacquiao more impressive to watch than Mayweather?
