Just finished the first day of our second week of preschool! We spend our days exploring Prospect Park, foraging, learning about different plants, digging in the soil, water coloring in the sunshine, and an endless amount of imaginary play and laughter. It feels like a dream to be able to hang out with these incredible kids for my job. This is a photo of them planting our class herbs in the back garden space. They loved smelling each one, smiling with wide eyes as they said, “Mmmmm!”

One with the Earth. This is what I feel when I am exploring in the park with kids, as they are naturally drawn to touching the soil, running through the grass, holding branches, climbing trees, creating mud sculptures, and the list goes on. I love how nature relaxes us all and creates endless imaginative play that feels so pure, simple, and enriching. We’ve had a blast together at the summer camps, and I’m looking forward to Monday for camp #3!

Pokeberries! The kiddos all foraged their own pokeberries for the purpose of squishing them all up to extract the bright, hot pink juice. The process of collecting, mushing, straining, and finally using the juice as paint for an art project was deeply satisfying. They were all so proud of the hard work that went into their pieces.

We all learn and grow together over the year, learning each other’s likes and dislikes, favorite activities to play, each other’s strengths, and favorite places in the park. We watch as the class fosters deep connections and respect for one another, and we love to witness these sweet moments of care.

We work on balance daily throughout our year together. Balance with our emotions, balance with our energy levels as we learn to listen to what our bodies need, and physical balance while we breathe and focus. We have so much fun doing movement together, especially stretches and yoga positions.

Sweet meditators 😊 I notice that after each meditation session (even only one minute of total silence together as a group) there is this wave of calm that washes over us all. I feel more deeply connected to the children and they seem to be in a dream-like haze afterwards. The calm might not last forever, but what does last forever is the deeper connection to themselves and to each other that grows each time we practice ✨
