Last Saturday, November 2nd, we had a wonderful group of young singers preparing for their Performing Arts High School Submissions. They have a month remaining before the due date! BREAK A LEG Singers! 🥳

What are some ways you ensure your preparation for an audition?
✔️Memorization
✔️Storytelling
✔️Daily vocalizing
✔️Creating urgency within your deadline

There’s a lot to consider when performing outside. Weather, footwear, snacks and water…

Here is a quick run down of how I get ready for a show where the elements are at play.

Beyond the look, are your shoes adaptable to your “stage” Wear shoes that can handle terrain. What if it gets cold or breezy? No point in being miserable. Just pack a jacket or a scarf.

Have you ever had to perform with the sun in your eyes? Not fun! Have sunglasses you’d be comfortable performing in if it is too bright outside.

Pack Bug Spray… don’t learn the hard way.

Power Banks are great to have for musicians who like to record their performances, but also just in case you get stuck on a train platform at 5% battery.

Snacks! I love chomps. I buy them by the box and always keep them stashed in my bag for rehearsals, or if I have a break when I’m teaching lessons. Not worth it to get to hangry.

Map out your route to your microphone. Does your outdoor stage have stairs? Do you have to navigate a gigantic tree? Are their monitors out that resemble an obstacle course? Make sure you can get from point A to point B without stress.

A little preparation goes a long way so you can just be in the music and tell your stories.

As Louis Pasteur said, “Fortune Favors the Prepared Mind” so prepare a little and have fun doing your thang!
