Experience the excitement of Raku from start to finish in this hands-on, multi-day workshop. Students will throw and trim their own pieces before participating in a live Raku firing using a gas-fired kiln at the Japanese Garden in Georgetown.

During the firing, pieces are removed from the kiln while red hot and transformed through dramatic surface techniques. We’ll explore horsehair application and post-firing reduction—placing glowing pots into containers filled with combustibles and sealing out oxygen to create bold crackle patterns and rich, unpredictable surfaces.

Prerequisite: Participants should be comfortable centering and throwing independently on the wheel.
This workshop is best suited for students with prior wheel-throwing experience.

You can sign up by going to our website, Elkhornpottery.com, under the “workshops” tab.
