You don’t need a sensory table, a cart full of supplies or an elaborate setup to make play meaningful. 🤍

Some of the best opportunities for little ones to explore, move, problem solve and build new skills are already hiding in your kitchen cabinets, laundry room and living room.

A muffin tin becomes a sorting activity.
A laundry basket becomes a whole body challenge.
A few pillows become an obstacle course.
A bowl of water can keep little hands busy far longer than expected. 🌊

That’s one of my favorite things about purposeful play: simple can still do so much.

Save these 7 ideas for the next rainy day, long afternoon or “what are we going to do for the next two hours?” kind of day. 😅

Which one would your little one choose first?

This morning, Atlas rolled. 💙

Such a small movement, but one that felt so big in our house.

At 9 months old, Atlas has been moving through his milestones on his own timeline. And even when you know better than to compare, it can be hard as a parent not to worry or feel a little sad when things seem to come more slowly for your baby.

For months, we’ve practiced. We’ve encouraged. We’ve celebrated the tiniest bits of progress. And this morning, all of that hard work came together when he finally rolled on his own.

One of the things I hope Little Tides can always be is a reminder that development isn’t a race. Some milestones arrive right on schedule. Some take a little more time, support, repetition, and patience.

And sometimes the smallest victories are the ones worth celebrating the most.

Today, we’re celebrating a roll. 🌊🤍

There’s a lot happening in those little hands turning pages. 🤍

Books aren’t just about learning words. They’re pointing, touching, turning, noticing, listening, anticipating and connecting.

And sometimes they’re reading the same page approximately 47 times.

That counts too. 🌊

A mud kitchen might look like a whole lot of dirt, old pots and very questionable soup. 🤎

But to little hands, it’s so much more.

Scooping. Pouring. Mixing. Carrying. Pretending. Problem solving. Getting messy. Starting over.

There’s sensory exploration, fine motor work, coordination, creativity and so much language happening without anyone needing to turn it into a “learning activity.”

Just give them the tools, let them lead and see what they come up with.

Around here, the mess is part of the magic. 🌊

We’re incredibly honored to share that Little Tides + Healing Hearts are proud sponsors of the 2026 Rhode Island Dup15Q Believe Walk & 5K this October at Goddard Memorial State Park. 💙

This event is especially meaningful because behind it is a local family sharing their story and turning their journey into something powerful for an entire community.

Elizabeth and Kyle’s son, Luke, is 4 years old and was diagnosed with Dup15Q syndrome at age 3. Dup15Q is a rare, lifelong neurodevelopmental disorder caused by an extra copy of a portion of chromosome 15.

Luke’s journey has included developmental challenges, autism and the loss of functional speech, but those things are only a small part of who he is. His family describes him as warm, gentle, affectionate and incredibly happy — a little boy who finds his own beautiful ways to show the people around him just how much he loves them. 💙

Their family created the Rhode Island Believe Walk & 5K to raise awareness, bring families together and support the Dup15Q Alliance, which provides family support while advancing research and work toward treatments for Dup15Q syndrome.

And we are so grateful to be part of it.

Together, Little Tides + Healing Hearts are creating the Calm + Connect Cove 🌊🧸

A sensory-friendly space where children and their families can step away from the excitement of the event to:

🌊 Move
🐚 Play
🌿 Regulate
🤍 Connect

We can’t wait to create a space where Luke and so many other incredible children can simply be themselves.
