What an incredible afternoon at the YWCA of Rochester & Monroe County’s 20th Annual Empowering Women Luncheon!

On behalf of Latinas Unidas, congratulations to Dr. Myra Henry, President & CEO, and the entire YWCA team on an outstanding event and this remarkable milestone!

It was wonderful to see more than 1,500 attendees representing businesses, nonprofit organizations, community leaders, and partners gathered in support of the YWCA’s mission to eliminate racism, empower women, and strengthen families throughout our community.

A highlight of the afternoon was the engaging fireside conversation between Dr. Henry and Venus Williams, tennis champion, entrepreneur, and advocate for equality. Venus shared meaningful reflections on growth, reinvention, family, and entrepreneurship, reminding us that continuing to evolve is an important part of life.

“Reinventing yourself is a must for everyone.” — Venus Williams

It was also a wonderful opportunity to spend time with some of our Latinas and hermanas, reconnect with longtime friends and community partners, and meet new faces. We always appreciate opportunities to strengthen relationships and celebrate the people and organizations making a difference in our community.

A special shout-out to Norma Holland, who was among those selected to ask Venus Williams a question during the closing Q&A! We were especially proud to see her participate in that memorable moment!

Thank you again to Dr. Henry and the YWCA team for your leadership, dedication, and continued impact in our community.

Congratulations on 20 years of Empowering Women!

Serving Strength. Building Futures.

🌸 A Women’s Tea | She Conquers: Overcoming Obstacles

What a beautiful gathering of women, filled with inspiration, meaningful conversations, and wonderful connections!

Latinas Unidas was delighted to attend and support the Rochester Latino Rotary Club’s Women’s Tea on October 7, celebrating the theme “She Conquers: Overcoming Obstacles.” Our President & Chair, Raquel Singletary, and Board Member Dr. Wendy Vera were pleased to be among those in attendance.

It was especially meaningful to hear from Angelica Pérez-Delgado as she shared her personal journey from childhood to womanhood and leadership. From the unconditional love of her abuelos and the mentors who guided her, to overcoming cancer at the height of her career and navigating challenges in leadership, her story offered powerful lessons about life’s obstacles and the people who help us along the way.

One of her most thought-provoking reflections challenged the expectation that women must always be resilient, reminding us that there is strength in vulnerability, in acknowledging our struggles, and in allowing others to support us.

We also appreciated Annette Ramos, who led an uplifting empowerment moment through words of affirmation and a thoughtful, personalized activity incorporating each attendee’s name, reminding us of our individual worth and the importance of encouraging and uplifting one another.

It was also wonderful to see the next generation actively engaged in our community! We enjoyed connecting with Leilani Calixto, Miss Puerto Rico Rochester Queen, and Jaylani Martinez, Miss Puerto Rico Rochester Princess, and sharing a special photo together. A heartfelt acknowledgment to Ivelisse Orona for her leadership and commitment to encouraging these young women to participate in community events and represent their heritage with pride.

And what a thoughtful touch! Each woman left with a beautiful teacup and a handmade floral fascinator, lovely keepsakes from a memorable gathering!

Our heartfelt congratulations and appreciation to the Rochester Latino Rotary Club, especially the remarkable women in its leadership whose dedication and efforts made this Women’s Tea possible. You are truly conquering women! Thank you for the time, care, and commitment you poured into making this gathering so meaningful. We love and appreciate you and the important work you continue to do in service to our community!

Latinas Unidas is proud to support opportunities that uplift women’s voices, celebrate their journeys, and inspire the next generation.
