🎶 Senior Sunday: Braden Richardson! 🎶
Braden has been a proud member of the Brighton Band program throughout middle and high school. He marched in 9th grade playing saxophone before stepping into the role of Drum Major in 10th grade, a position he continues to hold today as one of our two senior Drum Majors. One of his favorite memories was walking out on the field for the first time at Bandmasters and feeling the adrenaline of that moment.
Braden lives by this saying: "Believe in yourself even when nobody else does. Keep going, take the chances that scare you, and never let anyone convince you that you're not capable of becoming the person you want to be." After graduation, Braden is planning to attend the University of Tennessee at Martin.
We are so proud of everything Braden has accomplished. Congratulations, Braden! 🎶🎉

🎶 Volunteer Spotlight: Matt Knight 🎶
Meet Matt Knight, our Boosters Vice President! Matt has volunteered with the band program for three years. He was previously the Pit Crew lead and now stays heavily involved across the Pit Crew, Props, Fundraising, social media, and Concessions teams filling needs as they arise. As Vice President, his role is all about keeping every team aligned and communicating smoothly, coordinating volunteers through the band app, phone, and email, and jumping in personally whenever a team needs extra hands. When Matt first started volunteering, he was on active duty in the Navy stationed at the naval base in Millington; he's now a small business owner working with business owners across Tipton County on strategy and communications, and he also volunteers with his church's media and admin teams. He's the proud dad of a Junior who serves as the Front Ensemble section lead, and plays marimba during marching season, cymbals for pep band, and both marimba and vibraphone during concert season. Matt says that after missing a lot of his kids' lives to deployments and the demands of Navy life, volunteering with the band gives him a front-row seat to watch his son perform. It also allows him to make a difference in his son’s life and the community through volunteering with an organization he says helps teach our kids about responsibility, grit, and professionalism which prepares them for the real world. Like all of our booster board and committee members, Matt is a volunteer parent donating his time because he believes in what this band gives his kids and our community. Thank you, Matt, for everything you do! 🎶

Band parents, these are the bleacher years. 🎺

The long practices. The early Saturday call times. The late nights under the stadium lights. Some days they feel like they'll stretch on forever.

They won't. One day soon, you'll watch your student walk off that field for the last time and wonder where it all went.

You can't slow these years down, but you can be part of them. The Band Boosters need volunteers, and there's a spot for you, whether it's an hour at concessions, a Saturday on the Pit Crew, or a seat on the truck.

Don't just watch the bleacher years. Be in them.

MAYO MONDAY: Maestro Mayo! The principal role of a band director is to take the skills that they have honed through years of study hard work and employ them to teach and mold all of the individual students into one harmonious band.

As Harvey Mackay once said... “A great accomplishment shouldn’t be the end of the road, just the starting point for the next leap forward.”
