We can all use some encouraging words now and then. Children from Bridgton SACC visited Magic Lantern Innovation Center today to create a clothesline full of "positive message cards" as a community project. People walking by the theater were delighted to take a card or two. The cards will now go to The Bridgton Kindness Project on Iredale Street. Afterwards, the young artists watched a Halloween movie.

These are the major cloud types, but there are many others in infinite combination. Fall is a great time to look up, as the lower angle of the sun provides sharp contrasts between light and shadow (those gray areas within clouds), and less humidity causes water droplets to form more unusual shapes. We should all engage in some cloud gazing this autumn!

"Ocean to Plate to Ocean" is a project that collects used oyster shells from Maine restaurants. Shells are then returned to the ocean to rebalance ecosystems, acting as an "antacid" for the saltwater. Florida has pioneered a program to build oyster shells into reefs that restore fish populations and attract dolphins. The next time you order oysters, ask the server if they partner with Casco Bay Estuary Partnership to ensure that the shells are returned to the water and not taken to the landfill.

Magic Lantern was delighted to welcome the young filmmakers of Smooth Feather on Saturday to showcase five of their films and discuss their experiences as members of a youth production company. It was powerful to see their work on the big screen with dolby surround sound! We even had opportunity to meet Penelope, the boa constrictor featured in their short film "Dude Where's the Snake?" Thank you, Smooth Feather, for sharing your talents and messages of empathy and hope with us! We envision Mars as red but really it varies in color. This photo taken in early morning shows the Thyles Rupes section of Mars near the south pole. That blue area is a glacier. Martian dust gives the planet a pink glow. Photo courtesy of NASA.
