Congratulations to Will Knicley on his commitment to continue his academic and baseball career at Bridgewater College! We’re proud of you, Will, and excited to see you compete at the next level! ⚾️

Turner Ashby senior second baseman Will Knicley announced late Thursday that he has committed to continue his baseball career next year at nearby Bridgewater College.

Knicley is coming off a standout junior season in which he hit .402 with a .475 on-base percentage. He finished with 35 hits, 35 runs scored and 13 stolen bases in 27 games.

He earned first-team All-Valley District, All-Region 3C and all-state honors while helping the Knights finish as the VHSL Class 3 state runner-up.

“I’m extremely blessed and excited to announce I’ll be continuing my academic and athletic career at Bridgewater College,” Knicley said.

“First and foremost, I’d like to thank my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ for the opportunity He has presented me with and the guidance He has provided for me throughout this whole journey.

“Next, I’d like to thank my parents for pushing me and doing everything they possibly could to help me succeed. I’d also like to thank all of my family members who have been there through everything, at every game, and sacrificed their own time and efforts to help me become the person I am today.

“Thank you to my coaches, teammates, friends and everyone who has supported me throughout this journey. I am very grateful for all the support you have given me.

“Lastly, I’d like to thank Coach Spotts and his staff for giving me this amazing opportunity. I’m very excited for this next chapter in my life and cannot wait to see what God has planned for me. Let’s go Eagles!”

TA⚾️ to TA🏈
Keep it up boys!

I know I'm old school, but I applaud all the folks out there still encouraging their kids and students to be multi-sport athletes.

In an era where specializing and such is so prevalent, I truly think playing multiple sports helps athletes more than ever.

Look at Turner Ashby football.

Just months after the Turner Ashby baseball team competed in the Virginia High School League Class 3 state title game, take a look at the boxscore for the football team's 44-7 win tonight.

Will Knicley, the TA second baseman, had three total touchdowns — two receiving and one interception return for a score.

C**t Jennings, the TA left fielder, started at quarterback and threw three touchdown passes.

Mason Mantz, the TA catcher, caught a 68-yard touchdown pass.

Grady Bowman, the TA right fielder, ran in a two-point conversion.

Cooper Smith, the TA center fielder, caught a two-point conversion.

Brennan Batman, the TA corner infielder, tossed a conversion.

Maybe it's just me, but I think playing multiple sports still matters.

And I think playing with your friends matter.

“It just seems like everywhere we go, we're playing together, and I think, defensively, every time a ball is hit, we know exactly where to be. I think that's a big part of just playing together all the time.”
