Proud of you Drew!!

Congratulations to Drew Leisy of Bridgeport Public Schools for committing to steer clear of to***co and va**ng. Here's what he has to say: “I choose to be v**e and to***co free because my future deserves good health.”

Panhandle Public Health District (PPHD) is partnering with area students to spread the word on the dangers of to***co use of any kind. The campaign features high school athletes from around the region who commit to saying no to the harmful effects of to***co and how it can affect their performances on and off the field.

Each athlete has a post on the PPHD page and whichever athlete has the most “likes” on the original post on Facebook by December 9, will receive a $250 scholarship courtesy of PPHD.

As of 2020, 4.2% of Nebraska high school students smoke and 17.1% use e-cigarettes. In the last 2 years alone, va**ng increased by 218% among middle schoolers and 135% among high schoolers. Teens who v**e are now 3x more likely than non-vapors to become daily cigarette smokers.

Ni****ne increases your heart rate, tenses your muscles, and decreases the oxygen to your brain, despite a reputation for 'relieving stress.' In young people, 5 mg of ni****ne a day is enough to establish a ni****ne addiction.

Young people also face increased instances of anxiety and depression and while it has always been thought that ni****ne is a stress reducer, this is a common myth. In a study published by the Journal of American Medical Association, current e-cigarette users have double the odds of having a diagnosis of depression compared to those who have never v**ed. Ni****ne use in general can increase stress levels.

Students are the target of the to***co industry and their harmful marketing tactics are creating new generations of to***co users. By standing up to these tactics, area student athletes have the potential to be great leaders in their communities to help stop other students from becoming lifelong to***co users.

Attention Bulldog Parents, Fans and Supporters: After much consideration we have come to the conclusion that the Booster Club cannot continue on in its present state. The decline in member numbers has led us to this decision. If anyone is interested in carrying on, please get in contact with either Wendy Vergil or Monica Barnette. Our hope is that BHS administration or parent groups will carry on the traditions of the Homecoming Parade and Post Prom activities that the Booster Club took care of. Thanks to all that have helped in the past!

In order to celebrate and honor Bridgeport Public School’s Class of 2020, the school will be taking part in the campaign. On Friday, May 8 at 8:20 PM (2020 military time) the lights of the football field will be turned on for 20 minutes to honor our seniors. The date was chosen because it is the evening before what would have been the previously scheduled graduation. We ask that you drive by safely and remain in your vehicle to view our seniors banners and honk your horn to show support.
It’s a GREAT day to be a Bulldog!
