3DuxDesign PD brings the joy back to learningāfor teachers and students.
Our recent CSTA New Jersey CSDP-week PD workshops were full of exactly what we hope to see in classrooms: joy, noise, collaboration, mess-ups, fix-ups, and lots of proud āwe figured it outā moments.
Educators built Monster Mountain rides, designed Beastie Biomes, and tackled a monster-replicating coding challenge. Along the way, they experienced the learning that happens when things donāt go perfectly the first time.
With our Monster Mountain Theme Park session, some teams realized they had missed an engineering constraint, like forgetting the braking mechanism on their monster ride, and had to make a quick redesign. Others adapted their monster walkways with support railings, collaborated to solve problems, and picked up clues about habitats, animal diets, and behaviors by decoding Latin roots.
That is the power of hands-on learning.
Educators had a firsthand experience, seeing how students can test an idea, make a mistake, revise it, explain their thinking, collaborate with others, and show clear evidence of growth, all without the pressure of a test at the end. And just as important, they can have fun while theyāre learning and feel genuinely proud of what they created.
Thatās what we want educators to experience in our PD: not just hearing about hands-on learning, but experiencing firsthand how joyful, meaningful, and manageable it can be in their own classrooms.
