Class of 1980 — What a Weekend!

What a truly wonderful and successful 45th class reunion we had! We are so thankful for the 43 classmates who came together to celebrate over an unforgettable 3-day homecoming weekend.

It was so great to see everyone! From start to finish, the events were filled with laughter, reminiscing, and renewed connections. We kicked things off with a fun evening of sign painting on Thursday night at Cindy's — complete with storytelling and trips down memory lane. Friday's alumni reception at the school was a treat (can you believe how much the high school has changed?), and of course, the pep-rally and parade were a blast as always.

Pizza night at Burnham’s downtown Brewton was another highlight — their balcony patio is amazing and made for a perfect hangout spot. We wrapped it all up with a fantastic, casual Saturday afternoon at Leigh’s cabin by the lake, where the food, conversations, and company were the perfect ending to the weekend.

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who helped make the reunion such a success: Sam Fountain, Leigh Smith Faircloth, Marna Sue Reeves, Tammy Perry Jones, Randal Huff, Brian Williamson, Tara Lowery (Gage's daughter ... she officially became our class sign painter and photographer!) — and most especially, Eddie Graves. His generosity truly made the entire weekend extra special.

Seems like these posts are coming way too often but I wanted to tell everyone that our dear friend and classmate, Joyce Lyons Cante, passed away this past week. Joyce was such a sweet, sweet person. She always had a smile on her face and happy thoughts to share. She will be certainly be missed by her family and many, many friends from the Class of '80. Prayers for her family!
It is my understanding that the memorial service will be held Monday, August 14th, at the Second Saint Siloam Baptist Church in Brewton at 11 AM.

Today I received the said news that our friend and classmate, Lorraine Marshall Davis, lost her son, Randy Davis. I don’t know any of the details regarding a service yet but if anyone else knows, please comment. Praying for sweet Lorraine and her family! 🥲💔

Our dear friend and beloved classmate, Jeffrey Maloy, has passed away. We have no solid details yet regarding the cause, and no arrangements have been made yet for the funeral but we will keep you posted as soon as we know something. You can also check online at The Brewton Standard, Cravers Funeral Home, and Williams Memorial Chapel to see if updates are posted there.

As you know, our classmate, Alexis Allen Maloy, is married to Jeffrey's brother, Dwight. If you want to make contact with the family, we suggest you do so through Alexis. Dwight and Alexis still live in Brewton. As soon as we know the arrangements, our class will send flowers or make a donation to whatever charity the family chooses. 😢💔

Dear Classmates,

Due to the latest Coronavirus variant outbreak and the fact that we have had very poor response, we have decided to cancel our “40th Plus” homecoming activities that were planned for October 1st. We are disappointed to say the least but feel it is the right thing to do for everyone.

If you ordered and paid for a shirt but haven't gotten it, please let Cindy know how to get it to you. If you did not order but would still like to get one, she does have a few extras on a first come/first serve basis. Her cell number is 251-867-1431. The price is $10 for the shirt and $2.00 if you want her to mail them to you, or she will deliver free in Brewton. She also has a few black 22 oz. Class of 80 Stainless Steel Tumblers left if you want one of those. They are $12.00 per tumbler and $2.00 if you want her to mail it to you. Please private message her to find out how to pay.

Everyone please stay safe. We will regroup in 2025 for our 45th!

PS: Recent information from our classmate, Dr. Mike Faircloth, Director of Student Health Services at UAB: The new Covid-19 Delta variant is much more contagious. No data shows that masks are effective against it, but use one just in case. Also, wear glasses as there is mounting evidence that the eyes are an entry point. In addition, Mike called our coastal stretch a hotspot. He said all these trends are alarming, therefore adding that canceling was the right move.
