TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE BAND CAMP
by Randall Standridge

Twas the night before Band camp,
And all through the hall,
Not a student had practiced,
No, not one at all!

The instruments were stored
in the cubbies with care,
In hopes that the Director
would not know they were there.

The students were nestled
all snug in their beds,
while visions of marching block
danced in their heads.

And lo, the directors,
Having had a night cap,
Were steeling themselves
For more teenager crap.

For when the sun rises,
A new season begins!
And the bright smiles will make it
Worth doing again.

On Trumpets, On French Horns,
On Flute and Trombone!
On Saxes, on Baritones,
Clarinets and xylophone!

From the old practice field,
To the good old band hall!
Now march away, march away,
March away all!

Apologies, I got bored at the airport.

๐ŸŽถ Attention Breckenridge Band Families! (Grades 8-12) ๐ŸŽถ

Following up on our spring emails, here is the official schedule for our 2026 Marching Band Camp! This year is incredibly exciting because our 8th graders are officially joining the high school marching band. Welcome to the team! ๐ŸŽบ๐Ÿฅ

(Note: If your student is not taking band next year, you can just ignore this post!)

๐Ÿ—“ WHEN: August 3rd โ€“ 7th
โฐ TIME: 8:00 AM โ€“ 5:00 PM every day
๐Ÿ“ WHERE: The High School

Here is what you need to know:

๐Ÿ”น Rookie Monday: Monday morning is ONLY for "Rookies" (anyone who has never marched before, including all incoming 8th graders). Returning members will arrive after lunch on Monday. (Veteran members wanting to build leadership skills are very welcome to come in the morning to help guide our new marchers!)

๐Ÿ”น Attendance: We learn an entire semesterโ€™s worth of material in one week, so students are expected to attend. However, we know "life happens." If your student has a conflict, joining us for even a day or two is still very helpful. Just let me know about any schedule conflicts as soon as you can.

๐ŸŽ’ What to Bring:
Marching band is an outdoor sport! Please make sure your student is ready for the heat and the cardio:
๐Ÿ’ง WATER: Bring a large, insulated water jug. Start drinking plenty of water the day before!
๐Ÿฅช LUNCH: Pack a healthy, filling lunch to keep your energy up.
๐Ÿ‘Ÿ ATHLETIC GEAR: Wear light-colored, breathable clothes and good sneakers. (NO sandals, Crocs, or bare feet!)
โ˜€๏ธ SUN PROTECTION: Sunscreen, a hat, and sunglasses.
๐ŸŽท INSTRUMENT: Bring your instrument and any supplies you need (reeds, valve oil, etc.).
๐Ÿ˜ GREAT ATTITUDE: Come ready to work hard, learn a lot, and have fun!

Enjoy the rest of your summer, and I can't wait to get to work with the students in August! If you have any questions, feel free to send an email.

Musically yours,

Mr. Molands
Band Director

What an absolute gem of an evening.

The Chicago symphony performed an emotional rendition of Appalachian Suite - Mr Molands was truly in tears!

After intermission, Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra joined them on stage - Headlined by the retiring Jazz Legend, Wynton Marsalis.

What a historic & life changing event!

Oh, and look at how high these seats are!!!

Off to the hotel for some much needed rest.
Tomorrow is another jam packed day in the Windy City ๐Ÿ˜€
