The beginning of a new year means it's house selection ceremony time for the Houses of GRIT at Saint Martin STEAM Academy!

G = Generosity
R = Responsibility
I = Integrity
T = Teamwork

Students who are sorted stay in their "house" for their entire time at SMSA. Houses work together as a team to earn points and compete against other houses. It’s more than just a school - it’s a community, a culture, and a place where everyone belongs! Our beautiful house graphics were designed by one of our very own - Ms. Leblanc, our Media Arts teacher.

We are excited to introduce Ms. Harris as the new Assistant Principal of Saint Martin Early STEAM Academy!

Ms. Harris is an experienced educator with a strong background in literacy, instructional leadership, and student achievement. Throughout her career, she has served at both the state and local levels, working alongside educators, school leaders, and students to support effective instruction and student success.

She previously served as a Literacy Specialist with the Louisiana Department of Education, where she supported statewide literacy initiatives and partnered with educators and literacy leaders to strengthen instructional practices and improve outcomes for students.

We are excited to welcome Ms. Harris to our Magnet team and look forward to the experience, expertise, and leadership she brings to our students, staff, and families.

Who says STEAM only happens at a desk? 🏍️⚡

When learning moves beyond the classroom, unexpected moments turn into powerful lessons! Some of our students took an impromptu step outside for a close-up look at a teacher's motorcycle today. What started as a fun visit quickly turned into an engaging STEAM discussion - exploring everything from mechanics and engineering to design and art as well as responsibility and stewardship.

Moments like these remind us that inspiration is everywhere when you keep curiosity alive, and our young innovators loved getting inspired! 💡✨

Our 4th and 5th grade students kicked off the school year with an inspiring Leadership Retreat! We had 80 attend! 🌟

Each grade dedicated a full day to growing as individuals and as a team. Through interactive icebreakers, team-building challenges, and meaningful lessons, our students focused on key leadership values:
💬 Communication
💛 Kindness & Friendship
🤝 Teamwork & Being Helpers
⭐️ Setting a positive example for their peers

To top off all their hard work, students cooled off with a fun-filled water day to celebrate their teamwork and build lasting connections! 🌊💦

We are so proud of these rising leaders and can’t wait to see the positive impact they bring to our school community this year! We are setting futures in motion! 🚀✨
