Blending fragrance notes is my absolutely favorite part of creating a new scent. I love playing around with the composition of a fragrance and amber is one of my most used fragrance notes. It’s a chameleon scent in my opinion and works well with everything from earthy, to floral, and even spicy scents. Not often the star of the show but the grounding note in many candles. My most amber forward candle is part of my Halloween line, Bewitched it’s a blend of spiced honey, tonka beans, and amber and to***co leaf. What’s your favorite scent note when you look for candles or perfume?

Maritime Folklore has always captured my imagination. New England has such deep ties to the ocean and the stories and myths have always called to me. Merrows, the subject of my latest release, are merfolk of Irish lore, but we have our very own rich history and folk tales of the sea here in Massachusetts. We have lore of the sightings of merfolk off the coast of Nantucket, tales of pirates like Blackbeard and Captain Kidd pirating the New England coastline, tales from sailors about massive sea serpents and other fantastical creatures. Sitting at the beach and sketching out the world I wanted to create and communicate through scent the gentle waves feel almost like a lullaby, but I can’t help but let my imagination wander to what lies below the waves, or day dream about what kind of creatures we have yet to meet. There’s something equally soothing and mysterious about the sea that I can’t help but want to share some of its stories.

The Turning Tide Shop update is live! A late summer update to my permanent collections.

Merrow’s Lament arrives today in candle and linen spray, and diffuser form, carrying sea water, juniper and the faint smoke of driftwood through your home. A lament to the sea.

Aham Prema has been reimagined in summer rain, honeysuckle, rose petals and rain soaked stems. A softer, and more airy interpretation of this intention candle.

Crystal Intention Candles have also got an update. You can now experience these without the crystals and additives if you just want to work with the energy.

I’ve crafted each piece to represent a particular story or intention for you to experience. It’s finally time to let them leave my workshop and let everyone experience them.

Tomorrow the tide is turning.

At 6pm, I’ll be doing a final shop update before we head into fall and winter seasons. A new scent, a reimagination of Aham Prema and a new way to enjoy your existing rituals.

There’s something that feels so liminal about late summer. I’m still holding onto and savoring summer but dreaming about fall foliage and cooler weather. I love the introspection and coziness fall and winter bring. Turning tide felt like an appropriate name for this update as we begin to move from late summer to fall.

The Turning Tide Shop Update is only 3 days away! My final reveal is going all the way back to the beginning with my crystal intention candles. Fun fact, calm & balance was the first candle I ever made and sparked my love for blending fragrances. As part of this large shop drop, all of my crystal intention candles will be available to purchase as intention candles aka the candle without the extras. I love the crystals and think they add so much to the candle but recognize repeat purchasers may want to work with the intention and scent and not need multiple of the same crystal. So in an effort to be a bit more sustainable I will be releasing these scents in standard candle form as an additional way to work with these candles.

Scents always begin with a story in my mind. I’ll be inspired by a story, a place, imagery or sometimes even a little world I’ve created in my own mind, and I’ll build the scent story around those elements.
Creating a well rounded fragrance is all about layering. What you experience in your initial impression, what unfolds as the candle heats up, and then what lingers as the scent fully develops or dries down in the case of a spray. I like to think of the complex layers of scent notes to be the building blocks of a story.
My goal is always to create something that smells nice of course, but also something you can experience. A story through fragrance that can transport you somewhere new like a reading a book or that captures a moment in time.

Standing at the edge of steep stone cliffs overlooking the sea, Merrow’s Lament captures the briny scent of seawater carried up in the mist, intertwined with notes of juniper and driftwood smoke from the rugged shore. Moody and atmospheric, this aquatic scent is sea water forward, grounded by the smoky, weathered landscape of the coastline. A lament for the sea carrier in salty air.

The Turning Tide shop update arrives August 14, bringing with it a brand new Aham Prema.

Aham Prema, meaning “I am Divine Love,” is a Sanskrit mantra affirming you and your true nature are love in its most unconditional form. The current interpretation of this scent will be retired making way for the reimagined version. Opening with the scent of summer rain, washing away your worries and carrying in the childlike joy of splashing through puddles or slowing down to watch a summer storm roll by. Wild honeysuckle and rose petals bloom alongside fresh green stems, creating a scent of rain soaked florals and a breath of fresh air that feels clean, herbaceous, and alive.

Aham Prema is an invitation to start fresh, soften the edges and deepen our compassion and care for ourselves and others.

A tale of love between a Merrow and a sailor,

and how he eventually became her jailor.

With her crimson cap a Merrow danced between planes.

It was stolen to keep her, forging her chains.

Her spirit called to the wild salty sea,

for she knew on land, she would never feel free

The scent of brine replaced with woodsmoke.

Juniper caught in her confining cloak.

She searched high and low with a silent plea,

and found her magic cap under lock and key.

She once loved a man who lived on the shore,

but in the end she knew there was more.

Unleashed like a storm, she longed to feel whole,

so to the sea she fled to give life to her soul.
