Our Dual Language students and teachers had a fantastic second week, ¡aprendiendo y enseñando en dos idomas!

Dual Language is not an enrichment program. It is a rigorous, standards-aligned academic program. Our students are learning grade-level content and meeting the same academic standards as their peers while developing bilingualism and biliteracy in two languages!

Here’s a glimpse of some of the learning, collaboration, and fun from Week 2!

⚾️ A first baseball game to remember!

Yesterday, our 10 visiting teachers from Spain experienced their first-ever baseball game at LECOM Park in Bradenton, and, as they said, “It’s like in the movies!” 🎬⚾️

Pablo and Sofía even had the privilege of throwing the first pitch! What an unforgettable experience!

These teachers are here not only to bring strong pedagogy and share their culture with our students, but also to immerse themselves in ours, experience what makes our community unique, and take those experiences back to Spain to share and disseminate with their students.

It’s truly an educational and cultural exchange in every sense of the word! 🇪🇸🇺🇸

Our second cohort of visiting teachers from Spain has arrived and has been learning about the educational system in US and School District of Manatee County since day one. Their enthusiasm is contagious, and they can’t wait to meet their colleagues on Monday, August 3rd and welcome their students on August 10th.

They will be joining our Dual Language Program. A program built by some of the best educators in our district, whose dedication, expertise, and hard work have made it a model of excellence. We are excited to see this talented team collaborate, learn from one another, and continue providing our students with an exceptional bilingual and bicultural education.

This week, Dual Language teachers in School District of Manatee County Dual Language Program School District of Manatee County generously gave three days of their summer to collaborate with colleagues from across our district and neighboring Sarasota County. There is something special about this kind of professional learning. The engagement is authentic, the energy is contagious, and every conversation is centered on one purpose: providing the best possible learning experiences for our multilingual students and their families.

Thank you to all of our presenters, Tiffany Greer, Michele Yanong, Dr. Víctor González, Rebeca Sánchez, Dr. Cathy Rodríguez, Dr. Sonia Águila and Giovanna Mercado for making this year's Dual Language Summer Institute another incredible success. I am grateful to our keynote speaker, Dr. Raydel Hernández. It was a proud and meaningful moment to welcome someone with whom I share a special connection: we are both alumni of the same university and share a passion for language education. As always, he energized the room with his signature guitar, this time bringing everyone together with “Guantanamera”.

Thank you, Debra Bartlett Estes, for your guidance and support! And, thank you to our sponsors, Benchmark Education and Manatee Primary Care.

Together, we continue building opportunities for our bilingual learners to thrive.
