Michael Newsome and Robert Lacasella are running for ASMSU President and Vice President 2014-2015. What we are most concerned about is student involvement. Each individual student's needs to be heard and we vow to pressure each senator and ourselves to accomplish that task. Over the next month we hope to be able to talk to as many students as possible and hope to get a record breaking vote this sp

Had a little discussion with some of the Veterans in the Vet center and got some good feedback as to what Rob and I will be looking into doing if elected into office. Though the one point I want to bring up was an idea of alcohol on campus. A lot of the people laughed when he mentioned it but the point is, why not? The main point is if you have an idea it needs to be heard and at least talked about. An area to sit down and have a beer may not be possible in the long run. But we're going to find out why not and see if there are ways around it. The students need a voice and that voice needs to come from everyone, not one person who gets elected in by 12% of the student population. More student involvement, that's what we are all about!

Well day one of campaigning is coming to a close. Both Rob and I have heard some interesting views and some things that trouble me. The one that worries me the most is the view that no one really knows what happens in ASMSU and where their money is going. More involvement was a key issue for most of the people I talked to today and transparency as well. That's something were running on. Involvement. If successful in our campaign we are going to pressure the senators to meet with at least ten people a week from their respected colleges and Rob and I plan on meeting with at least 25 to 50 people a week to hear the student body's voice. We may not have direct control over an issue you have, but we will have communication lanes as the voice of MSU to address your issues. As well we met with a senior who was very concerned with more awareness on global issues and human rights. I agree completely with her and wish I could have sat down with her longer so she could run some ideas by me on how to solve some issues that MSU may be approaching, however I do look forward to working with anyone that is able to offer a more effective way to raise awareness about these issues on campus. The second most talked about subject was fees and possibly regulating them. That is exactly the kind of feedback we are looking for. There may be a very good chance that we can move money around and charge only the students that enjoy certain things that currently we all pay for (gym for example). I hope to have a meeting with the current president Lindsay here soon and that will be one of my main questions as to whether or not we can affect it. And if we cant, I will find out who can and as the voice of the students will express and pressure our voice. There were a lot of other great ideas mentioned today and everyone was great to talk to. Thanks again everyone. M.S.U.
