Our Douglas School District Board of Education members toured our schools and connected with building principals and district coordinators during last night’s meeting. The tour allowed board members to see our schools up close, learn about start-of-the-school-year initiatives, current projects and priorities, and receive updates on the great work happening across the district.

We appreciate our Board members for taking the time to visit our buildings, ask questions, and stay connected to the students, staff, and families we serve. We’re proud of the work happening throughout Douglas School District!

🚸 Back-to-School Safety Reminders 🚗
As we start the new school year, let’s work together to keep our students safe!

✓ Plan ahead:
Arrive early during the first week if you are dropping off your child, as traffic is often heavier.

✓ Drive with care:
Slow down in school zones and be alert for crossing students.

✓ Look both ways:
Students may be walking or biking from all directions.

✓ Follow the traffic flow:
Take note of the one-way street on Don Williams Drive around Badger Clark, Carrousel, and Francis Case. Be alert and patient learning the new traffic patterns at Douglas Middle School.

✓ Stay out of bus lanes:
These are for buses ONLY to keep loading and unloading safe for students.

✓ Leave pets at home:
While we love animals, they can cause anxiety for some students and be a distraction for those who are walking or crossing the street safely. For everyone’s comfort and safety, please keep pets at home or in your vehicle, away from drop-off and pick-up areas.

Thank you for doing your part to help us start the year safely!

It's hard to believe that tomorrow we officially start the 2026-27 school year! Our Family Walk-Through was a great opportunity for families—both returning and new—to help students feel comfortable and confident as they get ready for the first day. Families had the chance to find classrooms, meet teachers, check out new traffic patterns, and get familiar with all the changes and excitement that come with a new school year.

We can't wait to welcome our students back tomorrow!

We welcomed our staff back over the past week, bringing everyone together for our ever-popular Options-Based Professional Development Day! Staff began with required training and then had the opportunity to choose additional sessions based on their roles, interests, and professional goals. It’s a great way to learn, grow, collaborate, and kick off the school year together!

Every Free and Reduced Meal application completed makes a difference, not only for individual families, but for our entire school community. Even if you do not think your family will qualify for benefits, completing an application is important because the information helps connect families with resources, provides important funding for our schools, and supports student success.

Why Every Family Should Complete an Application:
✔️Student Success – The application helps ensure students have access to free or reduced-price meals, resources, and opportunities that support learning and nutrition.
✔️District Funding – The number of applications helps provide important funding for our schools.
✔️Family Support – Your family may qualify for free or reduced-price meals, computer fee waivers, and other support services.
✔️Community Benefit – Stronger schools help create a stronger community. Your participation helps our entire community thrive.

How to Apply:
Families can complete the application in several ways:
✔️Online: Log in to your Parent Portal, select More, then Meal Benefits.
✔️Family Walk-Through Night: Pick up an application at the Food Services Table at each school on Monday, August 17, from 3:30–7:00 p.m.
✔️Online PDF: Download a form from the Douglas School District ✔️Food Services page.
✔️In Person: Pick up an application at any school office, the Central Office, or the Food Service Office located at the middle school.
