Here is a quick clip from The Sly Hat Video Series.
This chapter is about using the hi-hat foot to fill in space, whether it is in a groove or fill or both.
For a while now I have been messing around with the idea of 1) taking a groove and moving the kick drum notes to the floor tom 2) after each tom or snare note, close the hi-hat and fill the rest of the space with singles or doubles on the hat!
It makes for a great exercise and can create some cool ideas!

When the first edition of The Sly Hat came out I was trying to reach out to as many people as I could. Once I reached out to Rod he did not hesitate to do what he could to help me, and he was the first to endorse The Sly Hat. I couldn't be more honored to have such a great person and great educator to help me along the way. Thank you Rod Morgenstein

Rich Stitzel has been such a big influence in my life and he has given me so much support over the years. If you're unfamiliar with Rich's material I highly suggest that you check it out. He has such a unique approach to everything he does and he will undoubtedly change the way you look at the drums. Thank you for the kind words Rich.
"In this day and age of social media copycats a fresh approach to drumming is hard to come by, and when you do find something fresh there may not be any way to access that material on a deeper level. I believe Taylor has done a great job coming up with a fresh and unique concept and has laid the material out in a way that is progressive and comprehensive. It's important to have solid material when you are developing your drumming abilities, but even more important is knowing that the material is coming from an honest and authentic space in the person who created it. In this case, the person matches the material. Honest, sincere, progressive, and hip. I think Taylor's Sly Hat book is going to make some great waves in the drumming community and we are going to see more and more drummers start to incorporate their left foot as a true voice rather than just a timekeeper. Congratulations Taylor on a cool concept, a well-written book, and a great delivery."
