What if your neighborhood could be a place where:

โ€ข Spontaneous hangs just happen ๐Ÿค—

โ€ข People actually help each other out ๐Ÿค

โ€ข Kids grow up surrounded by love + play ๐Ÿ’›

Thatโ€™s what weโ€™re buildingโ€”together.
One neighborhood at a time. ๐Ÿ˜๏ธ
And weโ€™d love for ๐—ฌ๐—ข๐—จ to be part of the vision! โœจ

Lauraโ€™s Story:
๐ŸŒป
"I set out to build a hyper-local neighbor community, extending one block away from my intersection in each direction. After going door-to-door with flyers and hosting two sidewalk social hours, we now have an active 70 member WhatsApp group and ongoing social events.
๐Ÿฅณ
Iโ€™ve enjoyed seeing the many ways the community has been used! Neighbors have gifted lemons and BBQ grills, swapped tips on local restaurants and street closures, and invited each other to art shows and walks. My favorite part... after I put in the up front work to build a communication channel, organizing social hours has become easy!
๐ŸŒป
Last week I sent out a quick WhatsApp poll with potential dates, and today weโ€™ll meet on the sidewalk for casual potluck snacks and drinks."

โ€œHalloween Hackโ€”our street is a bit of a side street, so putting our chairs out in the driveway seems to be enough to encourage the many kids on the intersecting street to see us and come down our street as well. Even better: if you stay inside, the parents often wait at the street and let the kids come up to the door, but if youโ€™re on the street you can talk to all of the parents!โ€

Robert Atlee (NAP3, Bishop, CA, USA) had his very first neighborhood eventโ€”a fire safety brush clearing day followed by a community picnic.
๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ”ฅ๐ŸŒญ

Hereโ€™s what he shared afterward:

โ€œA few things I learned:

1. Donโ€™t do ALL of the logistics yourselfโ€ฆ even if you can. Folks like to help and feel needed. Delegate as much as possibleโ€”even if itโ€™s more work or less efficient.

2. Focus on the people more than the project. Once the people are connected, the projects come together more naturally.

3. Donโ€™t overthink it. Donโ€™t overplan. But do have a pretty clear idea of whatโ€™s really needed of you, and make sure those things are covered so there arenโ€™t any big hiccups.

4. Allow more time than you think youโ€™ll need.

5. Ask participants for feedbackโ€”and for ideas for what to do next.

6. Take time to recognize and THANK each personโ€”by name, in public, in front of the group.โ€

The most powerful part? People from different political backgrounds rolled up their sleeves and pitched in together. A shared goal turned strangers into neighborsโ€”and neighbors into a team.

Big wins, Robert. ๐Ÿ‘

Tessโ€™s Story:

Big milestone alert! I just hosted my first event and it was a raging success!

Had about 35 folks show up, including folks who I wasnโ€™t expecting but who had been invited by others and heard through the grapevine! Lots of people asked me when weโ€™d be doing it again! Lots of momentum and excitement โค๏ธ๐Ÿฅฐ๐Ÿ˜ญ

Alex's Story:

Just 5 days after we started the program, I visited a friend from my cohort.

As I walked through the streets, I loved seeing how they had โ€œslow streetsโ€ where they put up signs blocking cars on alternating streets so they have to zig-zag instead of speeding through.

I talked with my friend who runs the streetscape committee in my neighborhood association, and asked if we could do that in our neighborhood too. He said to take some pics so we could give a presentation to the Department of Transportation. Now thatโ€™s what weโ€™re planning on doing!

All this to say, ๐™ซ๐™ž๐™จ๐™ž๐™ฉ ๐™ค๐™ฉ๐™๐™š๐™ง ๐™ฅ๐™š๐™ค๐™ฅ๐™ก๐™šโ€™๐™จ ๐™ฃ๐™š๐™ž๐™œ๐™๐™—๐™ค๐™ง๐™๐™ค๐™ค๐™™๐™จ ๐™›๐™ค๐™ง ๐™ž๐™ฃ๐™จ๐™ฅ๐™ž๐™ง๐™–๐™ฉ๐™ž๐™ค๐™ฃ ๐™–๐™ฃ๐™™ ๐™˜๐™ค๐™ข๐™ข๐™ช๐™ฃ๐™ž๐™ฉ๐™ฎ if you get the chance!

Savannah's Story:

Guys, itโ€™s happening. I just met another neighborโ€”just by sitting here and reading. She walks her cat on a leash (!!). I invited her to an upcoming art event and sheโ€™s coming!

Later, I shared with the group that Jon and I dream of creating more of a village feel in our neighborhoodโ€”partly because we donโ€™t believe parenting should be a two-person game. When I said that, my neighbor-friend Lily chimed in to say she loves kids and would happily babysit ours if we ever had them.

The idea of building community hereโ€”of making this place feel more like a villageโ€”seems to be landing. It feels like something is beginning. ๐ŸŒฑ
