What if your neighborhood could be a place where:
โข Spontaneous hangs just happen ๐ค
โข People actually help each other out ๐ค
โข Kids grow up surrounded by love + play ๐
Thatโs what weโre buildingโtogether.
One neighborhood at a time. ๐๏ธ
And weโd love for ๐ฌ๐ข๐จ to be part of the vision! โจ

Lauraโs Story:
๐ป
"I set out to build a hyper-local neighbor community, extending one block away from my intersection in each direction. After going door-to-door with flyers and hosting two sidewalk social hours, we now have an active 70 member WhatsApp group and ongoing social events.
๐ฅณ
Iโve enjoyed seeing the many ways the community has been used! Neighbors have gifted lemons and BBQ grills, swapped tips on local restaurants and street closures, and invited each other to art shows and walks. My favorite part... after I put in the up front work to build a communication channel, organizing social hours has become easy!
๐ป
Last week I sent out a quick WhatsApp poll with potential dates, and today weโll meet on the sidewalk for casual potluck snacks and drinks."

โHalloween Hackโour street is a bit of a side street, so putting our chairs out in the driveway seems to be enough to encourage the many kids on the intersecting street to see us and come down our street as well. Even better: if you stay inside, the parents often wait at the street and let the kids come up to the door, but if youโre on the street you can talk to all of the parents!โ

Robert Atlee (NAP3, Bishop, CA, USA) had his very first neighborhood eventโa fire safety brush clearing day followed by a community picnic.

Hereโs what he shared afterward:
โA few things I learned:
1. Donโt do ALL of the logistics yourselfโฆ even if you can. Folks like to help and feel needed. Delegate as much as possibleโeven if itโs more work or less efficient.
2. Focus on the people more than the project. Once the people are connected, the projects come together more naturally.
3. Donโt overthink it. Donโt overplan. But do have a pretty clear idea of whatโs really needed of you, and make sure those things are covered so there arenโt any big hiccups.
4. Allow more time than you think youโll need.
5. Ask participants for feedbackโand for ideas for what to do next.
6. Take time to recognize and THANK each personโby name, in public, in front of the group.โ
The most powerful part? People from different political backgrounds rolled up their sleeves and pitched in together. A shared goal turned strangers into neighborsโand neighbors into a team.
Big wins, Robert. ๐

Tessโs Story:
Big milestone alert! I just hosted my first event and it was a raging success!
Had about 35 folks show up, including folks who I wasnโt expecting but who had been invited by others and heard through the grapevine! Lots of people asked me when weโd be doing it again! Lots of momentum and excitement โค๏ธ๐ฅฐ๐ญ

Alex's Story:
Just 5 days after we started the program, I visited a friend from my cohort.
As I walked through the streets, I loved seeing how they had โslow streetsโ where they put up signs blocking cars on alternating streets so they have to zig-zag instead of speeding through.
I talked with my friend who runs the streetscape committee in my neighborhood association, and asked if we could do that in our neighborhood too. He said to take some pics so we could give a presentation to the Department of Transportation. Now thatโs what weโre planning on doing!
All this to say, ๐ซ๐๐จ๐๐ฉ ๐ค๐ฉ๐๐๐ง ๐ฅ๐๐ค๐ฅ๐ก๐โ๐จ ๐ฃ๐๐๐๐๐๐ค๐ง๐๐ค๐ค๐๐จ ๐๐ค๐ง ๐๐ฃ๐จ๐ฅ๐๐ง๐๐ฉ๐๐ค๐ฃ ๐๐ฃ๐ ๐๐ค๐ข๐ข๐ช๐ฃ๐๐ฉ๐ฎ if you get the chance!

Savannah's Story:
Guys, itโs happening. I just met another neighborโjust by sitting here and reading. She walks her cat on a leash (!!). I invited her to an upcoming art event and sheโs coming!
Later, I shared with the group that Jon and I dream of creating more of a village feel in our neighborhoodโpartly because we donโt believe parenting should be a two-person game. When I said that, my neighbor-friend Lily chimed in to say she loves kids and would happily babysit ours if we ever had them.
The idea of building community hereโof making this place feel more like a villageโseems to be landing. It feels like something is beginning. ๐ฑ
