I took a poll. You have spoken. Unanimously.

Turns out you want to know how to protect yourselves. Good! Because before yoga, I spent years teaching women to fight.

In the early 90s I was one of the youngest certified instructors in the Model Mugging method, helping run the NYC chapter at the height of violent crime. I taught hundreds of women — doctors, artists, survivors, mothers — what to do when their body froze and their life depended on moving anyway.

Reading the news lately, I felt that part of me wake back up. So I wrote about it.

The freeze response. Your voice as a weapon. Why fighting back interrupts violence rather than escalating it. What every woman deserves to know right now, as the patriarchy seems to act out more and more as it takes its last gasps for air.

On my Substack. Read it, share it with someone you love.

My two nights in Brooklyn last month were far more memorable, thanks to .bklynbridge.

Opening the huge nano window to the water and seeing the bridge that close had me in tears. And this roof top — it takes the majesty of NYC Harbor to a whole new level.

Just finished teaching yoga for gardeners and farmers at and had to share this while it was fresh. 🌱

The squat and kneel are the most functional positions in the garden — but only if you vary it. Staying in one position too long is where injury and stiffness creeps in.

And how you come up matters just as much, especially when you’re lifting soil bags or bins full of the day’s harvest.

Four keys to a pain-free season:

→ Warm up before you go out (lots of deep lunges and squats with heels supported)
→ Rotate through different positions while you work
→ Use good mechanics every time you lift and rise
→ Stretch when you’re done

Your body is your most important tool. Treat it that way.🪏

Boulder! Join us for yoga at March 21st!

Long hours bending, lifting, kneeling, and squatting in the garden can take a real toll on the body.

As a gardener, farmer, and longtime yoga teacher, I’ve experienced firsthand how essential flexibility, mobility, and joint health are for getting through the growing season and recovering so you can do it all again the next day.

This gardener-friendly yoga class is designed to support the specific physical demands of gardening and farm work.

We’ll focus on improving mobility in the hips, lower back, knees, shoulders, and wrists, while building strength and stability that protect joints and reduce common aches and injuries.

The practice is practical, accessible, and adaptable for all levels. No prior yoga experience is needed.

This is a chance to care for your body before the busy season begins so you can move more comfortably, work more efficiently, and enjoy your time in the garden.

This is the ideal time of year to start getting flexible and strong, before planting ramps up and your body is asked to do it all!
I’m honored to be offering this class at my absolute favorite local nursery for native plants, shrubs, trees, and other water wise, chemical free, pollinator friendly varieties, herbs, and veggies - the wonderful Harlequin Gardens
