OPENING at the Coolidge Corner Theater in Boston on Feb. 10- Jafar Panahi’s NO BEARS, winner of the Special Jury Prize at the 2022 Venice Film Festival, is being called “a masterwork” (Rolling Stone) and “the #1 film of the year” by Vulture and the Los Angeles Times.

In NO BEARS, completed shortly before his imprisonment in July 2022, Jafar Panahi plays a fictionalized version of himself, who has relocated to a rural border town in Iran to remotely direct a new film in nearby Turkey. While there, he finds himself thrust in the middle of a local scandal, confronting the opposing pulls of tradition and progress.

Arab Constitutionalism - The Coming Revolution

AUB’s Global Engagement Initiative and the Middle East Institute, Washington, D.C. invite you to a discussion of the issues analyzed in Zaid Al-Ali’s new book from Cambridge University Press: Arab Constitutionalism: The Coming Revolution

Speakers will review the ongoing constitutional, political, and citizen protest movements across the Arab region. What were the protest demands that forced more than a dozen Arab states to amend their constitutions, how did governments respond, and why did the constitutional reforms fail to bring about freer societies and better functioning states? What could the future revolution look like?

The discussion will be held online on Monday, December 13, 2021 at 7pm Beirut time, noon EST.

You can livestream the event on Facebook here.
