From the start, the essential components of Project STEP's instruction have been:

•Excellent instruction
•A strong grounding in music theory
•Good quality instruments for all students
•Peer mentoring with older Project STEP students and graduates
•Opportunities to perform for audiences
•Exposure to musicians at the top of their field

We want to extend our congratulations to Alba Gilabert-Reid, Ameerah Manigat, and Sofia Graupera on their Project STEP Senior Recital yesterday at the Allen Center.

This special performance marks the culmination of their journey as Project STEP students and the beginning of an exciting new chapter in higher education. We are incredibly proud of all they have accomplished and can't wait to see where their talent, dedication, and passion take them next. 🎶

Thanks to pianist Joy Cline-Phinney for the wonderful collaboration with our musicians!

Congratulations to our FOCUS I students on their final class performance last week! A special thanks to our FOCUS I teacher, Linda Emmanuel, for being such a wonderful musical guide for our little ones.

-

FOCUS I aims to introduce young students from historically underrepresented communities to the study of music. FOCUS I provides valuable beginning music instruction and instrumental demonstrations to students who are currently in Kindergarten/K2 (rising up to 1st grade next Fall). During this class, children use their bodies to explore rhythm, musical components and expression. For many students, this early exposure to music will help enrich the music programs in their own schools and help encourage them to pursue the study of musical instruments in the future. A parent or guardian must attend class with each student.
