Along with Leon Smith and Sana Fadel from Citizens for Juvenile Justice, I testified today before the Joint Committee on the Judiciary in support of S1061, An Act to promote public safety and better outcomes for youths. This bill would raise the age of criminal majority over time which will allow for young people to be held accountable while also ensuring they have access to appropriate programming that will decrease recidivism rates and improve outcomes for all.
We are pleased with the progress we made last session and look forward to working with the Committee along with all stakeholders to get this transformative legislation signed into law. Thank you to the advocates, coalition members, and all those who continue to put forward evidence-based solutions that will support the youth in our criminal justice system.
