Spruce Street Nursery School

Founded in 1996, Spruce Street was created to provide an environment that supports the development of young children and fosters creative thinking.

Spruce Street Nursery School serves children ages 2-5 and is located in the heart of downtown Boston. At Spruce we recognize that children learn about the world through active exploration and play. Teachers here develop curriculum to honor and explore each child's potential. Classrooms are designed to offer many opportunities for a child to learn at his or her own pace. Art, music, and children's

literature are essential elements of our program. Concepts and skills are presented at appropriate developmental stages and then expanded upon through both structured activity and imaginative play. Many children begin attending on a part-time schedule which allows both the child and family to achieve a comfort level with school and the separation process. Scheduled days increase in subsequent years as your child becomes acclimated to school, allowing greater continuity of curriculum as your child grows and develops. We feel that children of all ages should come together to learn from and with each other. Although our classrooms are grouped and defined generally by age, all of the children have ample opportunity to work with other teachers and age groups as well. By encouraging interchange between classrooms a greater feeling of community is experienced as children both younger and older come to know and appreciate one another. The city provides the school with many opportunities for concrete experiences that broaden the children’s understanding of the world around them. Cart rides along city streets and trips to the park contribute to an essential understanding of what it means to be part of a larger community. The many resources available in the city are invaluable teaching tools. The richness and diversity of the urban environment both informs and enriches our educational mission. On Friday, The Maples and Oaks had a great day celebrating the 100th day of school! 🥳
The Maples made cupcakes and dressed up as 100-year-olds, which was a hoot! The Oaks had a special snack made up of 100 delicious items.😋 They also drew a future self-portrait and imagined what they will be doing as centenarians!

On November 15, Spruce Street proudly won the First Annual Sippy Cup Invitational, a friendly but fiercely competitive pickleball and co****le tournament that brought together nearly 80 dads from Spruce Street, JWS, Kingsley, Park Street, and Croft. What began as a lighthearted idea quickly became one of the most entertaining fundraisers of the year, raising funds for all five Boston nursery schools!👏🎉

A huge thank-you to everyone who competed, cheered, volunteered, and helped make the inaugural tournament such a success!

The annual All-School Thanksgiving Feast! The Acorns made cornbread muffins, the Willows made applesauce, the Maples made cranberry crumble, and the Oaks made sweet potato casserole topped with mini marshmallows. What an event!

On Friday, the Willows had a special visitor on the last day of their Outer Space unit! 🌌 Lincoln, a Spruce alum, is an outer space enthusiast and gave a presentation about space! He let the Willows look through his telescope, read his favorite book about space, showed them his planet pillows, shared his favorite space facts, and answered their questions. At the end, he even handed out space-themed stickers to his Willow friends because they “did such a great job listening”! 👏❤️🧑‍🚀💫 🔭🪐✨
