5 Networking Tips for Student Entrepreneurs
You don’t need to know everyone. You just need to know how to show up the right way.
Whether you’re pitching an idea, building your team, or just figuring things out, these tips can help you make real, lasting connections, even if you're just getting started.
💬 1. Start with students, not investors
Your peers are future co-founders, collaborators, and champions. Reach out to people in your classes, clubs, or campus orgs. You’re already part of a community. Use it.
💡 2. Ask questions, not favors
Instead of “Can you help me?” try:
- “What’s one thing you wish you knew when you started?”
- “How did you meet your first teammate?”
Curiosity builds better conversations (and better relationships).
📩 3. Follow up with value
After meeting someone, send a quick thank-you that mentions something specific they said.
Even better, share an article, event, or idea they might find helpful. Thoughtfulness stands out.
🔗 4. Use LinkedIn like a strategy tool
Keep your messages short and intentional.
Mention why you’re reaching out and what you admire.
Pro tip: Comment on their posts before sending a message. It makes your name familiar.
🚀 5. Don’t wait to feel “ready”
You don’t need a full pitch deck or polished idea. You just need a reason to reach out and a willingness to learn. Most good conversations start that way.
