We are so delighted to share with you the wonderful news that Dr. Deb Erlich has selected as the 2019-2020 winner of the Milton O. M30 and Natalie V. Zucker Clinical Teaching Prize for Innovation in Medical Education.

She was elected based on her work in the Family Medicine Clerkship and her innovative use of technology to ensure excellence in education in the face of the Covid pandemic. She has worked with the students, the community preceptors, and her Family Medicine Clerkship team to re-invent the Family Medicine Clerkship during the last six months, making sure that the highest standards of education are maintained in the Department of Family Medicine.

Five Family physicians have received this award over the last 18 years.

Congratulations, Dr. Erlich!

Quality Measures: How to Get Them Right 07/16/2018

Rewarding physician performance that produces better patient outcomes is a good idea but we need to make sure there is evidence that we are really helping patients.

Co-authored by Dr Ron Adler, Dr Courtney Scanlon (former TUSM student and current Tufts FM resident), Sami Hamdan (M19), and Dr Wayne Altman, Jaharis Family Chair of Family Medicine.

10 Criteria of appropriate quality measures developed through a collaboration of Care That Matters (Co-founded by Drs Adler & Altman) and Dynamed Plus.

Quality Measures: How to Get Them Right Pay-for-performance programs have produced disappointing results. Fewer and more appropriate, evidence-based quality measures could help.

Night sweats, bloody cough — and a diagnosis that turned a doctor into an activist 10/19/2016

Our friend and colleague, Kelly Holland, is an extraordinary family physician and human being.
"Everybody deserves to have a treatable disease treated and a preventable disease prevented."

Night sweats, bloody cough — and a diagnosis that turned a doctor into an activist Dr. Kelly Holland's bout with tuberculosis was a public health nightmare for his town. It also turned him into an activist, fighting for more TB funding.
