Building a living bridge between language, culture, and history, the Boston University Modern Greek Program @ the Department of Classical Studies in collaboration with Nostos Hellenic Academy, brings together university students and school learners in a shared educational experience.

Today, we had the pleasure of presenting our work at Boston University as part of this meaningful partnership.

A Boston University student and a student from Nostos Hellenic Academy worked together, conducting research and co-creating a joint approach on a timeless and highly relevant topic: the Marbles of the Parthenon.

Our students, Alexandra Iliopoulou and Georgia Karantenisli, through their research, took an important additional step: they conducted an interview with Ms. Mimi Denissi, on the occasion of her new docudrama “The Woman Behind Elgin”. The conversation shed light on the inspiration behind the work, as well as the significance of the Marbles as a symbol of cultural identity, highlighting the deep connection between art and history.

The experience did not end with the presentation.

BU Modern Greek Students in the Intermediate Modern Class worked in groups on the interview through comprehension activities, multiple-choice questions, and discussion—engaging with the Greek language through authentic and contemporary cultural content.

Language became a bridge to history.
History became an opportunity for dialogue.
And identity became a lived experience.

“As art is more free… you can express and show many things,” as Ms. Mimi Denissi noted.

We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Ms. Mimi Denissi for her generous provision of photographic material and for the meaningful and inspiring interview she shared with us.

Congratulations to our students for their outstanding collaboration, dedication, and insightful work.

Supervising teachers:
Kelly Polychroniou, Boston University | Head of Modern Greek Program
Maria Kyriakantonaki, Founder/Director, Nostos Hellenic Academy

Dream big — and keep the Greek language alive.
