We are pleased to announce that the keynote speaker at the 2015 conference will be DR. ANDREW PRESTON.

Andrew Preston is a Reader in American History at Clare College at Cambridge University and is co-editor of the Historical Journal. Among his books are The War Council: McGeorge Bundy, the NSC, and Vietnam (2010), Nixon in the World (2008, co-edited with Prof. Fredrik Logevall), and the award-winning Sword of the Spirit, Shield of Faith: Religion in American War and Diplomacy (2012).

CALL FOR PAPERS: This year’s conference will address American wars and conflicts from the colonial period to the present. We seek papers that shed new light on how war has shaped American politics, culture, or society. Submissions may focus on conflicts of any scale, from small skirmishes to global infernos. Examples might include not only declared wars, but also covert government action, insurgencies, or individuals fighting without state sanction. In addition to traditional military, diplomatic, and political angles, we welcome work that addresses its subject matter from cultural, economic, or intellectual perspectives.

Individual papers or panel proposals should be submitted in the form of a 300-500 word abstract by Friday, January 9, 2015. Please include a one-page C.V. along with your proposal, and send via email to David Shorten at [email protected].

The most outstanding submission will receive the APHI Outstanding Graduate Student Paper Prize, which includes a $1,000 cash award.

All presenters must be current graduate students. Distinguished faculty will serve as commentators for each panel.

We are pleased to announce the 2015 BU Graduate Student American Political History Conference: "Americans and War." It will be held at Boston University on March 20th and 21st, 2015. More details soon!

Thank you to all who participated in or attended our 6th annual APHI Conference. We had the opportunity to hear about many scholars' exciting new research on a number of great panels! Our Outstanding Graduate Student Paper award this year went to Glen Olson for "Dysfunctional Empire: the Utah War and Sectional Politics." Hope to see you all again next year!

Our 2014 Conference kicks off this morning with a panel on Legislating Bodies: Public Health and Public Interest. Hope to see some of you there!

Our 6th annual BU Graduate Student American Political History Conference will be held next Friday and Saturday, April 11-12. We have graduate students from around the country coming to present papers on this year's theme, "The Politics of Protest," and there will be a keynote speech on April 11 at 4pm from Lisa McGirr, professor of history at Harvard University.

We are looking forward to a terrific conference, and we hope many of you will find time to attend one or more of the panels.
