Experiential education, public sails, and private charter events aboard our two historic tall ships.

World Ocean School exists to provide students of all backgrounds with immersive opportunities to learn to care for themselves, their crew, and the ir ship, becoming vessels of change in the world they inherit. We operate programs aboard the traditionally rigged schooners Roseway and Denis Sullivan.

Fair winds and following seas to all.

This Pride Month, we celebrate the LGBTQ+ community and reaffirm our commitment to creating spaces where everyone feels welcome, respected, and able to be themselves.

Captain Flansburg has spent years helping students, crew, and community members build confidence, take on challenges, and experience life aboard Denis Sullivan and many other tall ships.

Now it is his turn to step up to the plank.

Captain Flansburg is jumping in this year’s Walk the Plank fundraiser to support programs aboard Denis Sullivan, helping students experience once in a lifetime voyages at sea.

Want to support him? Visit his campaign page through this link: https://www.justgiving.com/campaign/walktheplank2026

Supporting another jumper instead? Every campaign supports the same mission and helps get more students aboard.

Not 1, but 2 messages in bottles from our St. Croix to Charleston voyage have been found!

Thank you to Rod and Jan for reaching out after discovering them.

It is always amazing to see where they eventually end up. A few more are still out there 👀

Every two years, the Coast Guard requires ships like Denis Sullivan to come out of the water for a full inspection.

Since mid-April, Denis Sullivan has been in Savannah, Georgia, for her spring yard period. Over the past several weeks, crew and shipwrights have been tackling an important round of maintenance

We look forward getting back to Boston in the beginning of June.

Denis Sullivan, or “Deni” for short, started construction beginning in 1996 and launched in 2000. Built in Milwaukee, she continues her mission today as an educational vessel with World Ocean School.
