Always Alpha Phi. Welcome to the Alpha Phi-Zeta Phi chapter @ MIT! Our chapter, MIT's first sorority, is composed of friendly, ambitious, and talented women.
Individually, our sisters boast incredible personal accomplishments, including academic, athletic, and philanthropic endeavors. We are driven leaders, scholars and contributors in the classrooms and community. Collectively, we share a special bond and love for one another. finishing up our holiday traditions series is Hara sharing about all the cool things her & her family do to celebrate New Years in Greece!🇬🇷
“New Years is a big holiday in Greece, celebrated mostly with family! January 1st is Saint Basil’s day, which is a historic person that is considered to be Santa Claus for greeks, and therefore the day celebrates his life which symbolizes luck, kindness, and giving. We celebrate with vasilopita (Saint Basil’s cake), which is a traditional cake/bread served with a hidden coin in it. When cut, the person who finds the coin is said to be granted luck for the whole year! Greeks usually also include pieces for Christ, Virgin Mary, and their homes as well as the rest of the family members.” - 💙

next up, we have Adriana sharing about the holiday traditions she has back at home in Puerto Rico! 🥳
“The day is known as Three Kings Day, Jan 6th, the day in which the three wise men (Melchior, Caspar, and Balthasar) first saw baby Jesus and brought him gifts. In Puerto Rico, the tradition is that, if you leave a box with hay/grass under your bed the night of January 5th to "feed the Kings' camels", the three kings will leave you good presents under your bed/Christmas Tree as did Santa on Dec 25th. Jan 6th, also referred to as Epiphany Day, is a national holiday in Puerto Rico and is considered a family-dedicated day around the island.” - 🤍

wrapping up our week of thankfulness, we have Maria!😇🤎
“I’m thankful for Alpha Phi because it has given me a group of people to travel with. No matter where I want to go, I will always find an aphi to come with. If I need to talk after a long day or I just need a distraction, there is always someone there. Aphi has given me the best friends I could have asked for and I cant wait to see the great things they all do.” - 2023
