Today is Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and at Discovering Justice, we honor Dr. King's legacy and leadership through our civics education programs. One example of this is our Children of Discovering Justice program where students ask themselves what is justice and how to advocate. In this video, hear from one Springfield 4th grader as she explains the meaning of justice and how she advocates for her community.

Here at Discovering Justice, we’re diving headfirst into 2026—but first want to pause and celebrate what this community made possible in 2025. In the past six weeks, we have raised more than $58,000 to support our programs as we kick off our 25th anniversary!

Together, our supporters, educators, families, and partners opened the courthouse doors to thousands of students across Massachusetts.

If you haven’t had the chance to give, or are able to make an additional gift, your contribution today will ensure we start 2026 strong. Visit https://onecau.se/_dneqw1 to give today!

Thank you to everyone in our community who has supported our 25th Anniversary campaign so far.

As a small, nonpartisan nonprofit serving students and educators across Massachusetts, we rely on supporters like you to keep this work going.

Our students are looking to us as they try to learn about today’s civic landscape. Teachers are turning to us for timely, Massachusetts-specific resources to help them guide the tough conversations. In this moment, our democracy depends on organizations like ours to ensure our judicial system remains accessible to all.

If you are curious what this looks like in practice, below are some of our impact numbers, quotes from members of our programs and a breakdown of what your donation has the power to do!

There is still time to join others and make your gift. Every gift matters. No amount is too small to make a difference in students lives.

Despite civics being essential to strong, connected communities, most students—particularly in high-need districts—lack opportunities for hands-on, inclusive engagement with democracy. Nationally, just five cents per student is spent on civics, compared to $50 per student on STEM, and K–5 teachers report little training or time to teach civics.

Discovering Justice fills this gap by providing experiential programs that connect diverse K–12 students with judges, lawyers, and civic leaders who help them develop critical thinking, collaboration, and leadership skills.
