On this day in 1772, our relative, Dr. John Mawney, and many others took a stance against the British, and burned the Gaspee. This marked the official beginning of what would become the Colonies quest for Independence, and the formation of the United States of America. To bring this history lesson alive, we took a field trip to the sand bar, formally called Namquid Point, which the Gaspee ran aground on 249 years ago, and subsequently burned that evening.

We had a field trip to the Central Landfill in Johnston today. What a great way to see how everyday actions have a lasting effect on the environment. This landfill started accepting trash in the 1970’s, and is expected to reach capacity by 2040!! Once it is full, RI will need to find a new way to manage our waste. Currently, there is no formal, approved plan in place.

Learning is not limited to the weekdays. Today we spent time appreciating Art. Johnathan’s favorite pieces were the hymn book, a clock, a mirror, a flower that was stamped into a floor tile, and some snake figures that were slithering around a window. Field trip to The Breakers in Newport, RI. Spacious room might be an understatement for the Zillow listing. Johnathan said he could own it for one Bitcoin or a million dollars. Either way he will have one heck of a house.
