Ann is the author, illustrator, and designer of the critically acclaimed books on oboe reedmaking, The Illustrated Encyclopedia Of Oboe Reedmaking: A Guide To The American School Of Oboe Reedmaking, Volumes 1 and 2. She was appointed solo English horn of the New Mexico Symphony at age 19. Additionally, she is a former member of the Albuquerque Chamber Orchestra. Ann has made oboe reeds professionally for a leading American reedmaking company. She holds a BM and MM from Boston University. Ann has performed with Emmanuel Music, Boston Classical Orchestra, Pro Arte Chamber Orchestra, New Hampshire Symphony and on WGBH-FM Radio. She has made guest chamber music appearances with Boston Symphony members on the Boston University Faculty Series.

Nearly every oboist learns and performs this piece at one point. I found my first student performance to share with my students and others who may be learning this piece for the first time.

Discovering this recording brings back fond memories of Larry Thorstenberg who coached me on this work. I still see his markings on the music! I'm also reminded of my early performances on those Laubin Oboes made by Al and Paul.

Introducing A New Service

I am accepting a few students of all levels for coaching! With years of experience as a professional oboist, reedmaker and teacher, I help oboists identify root causes of their playing and reedmaking problems — and recommend solutions. Often the difference between success and failure is a fine point.

Performing major works with major collaborators was a great way to begin my career. At a very early age I was forced to explore and analyze playing and reedmaking techniques to develop a reliable reedmaking system. I can pass this knowledge to the next generation looking for reliable answers.
