This talk will examine how Indigenous Peoples have long been on the frontlines of climate action, protecting ecosystems and biodiversity through rights-based struggles, traditional ecological knowledge, and legal resistance to extractive development. Drawing on histories of Indigenous struggle, the talk will explore emerging threats to civil society and how these traditions of resistance offer vital insights for confronting authoritarianism and the rise of technofascism, and for imagining alternative socioecological futures.

On March 10, Nico Edwards delivered a talk titled “The Military ‘Green Transition’ and Struggles for Socioecological Justice.” Examining NATO, the EU, and other military actors’ efforts to “green” militarism, Edwards traced the rise of a military-green-industrial complex that frames armed forces as climate warriors and arms industries as guarantors of a sustainable future. The talk invited the audience to reflect on how this shift normalizes armed violence in the name of climate action and what it means for movements working toward peace and socioecological justice.
