Dive into the world of articles with ESL Academy!

In English, "a," "an," and "the" are articles, and they play a crucial role in specifying and identifying nouns. Here's a brief explanation of when to use each:

“A”: Use “a” before words that begin with a consonant sound.
Example: a car, a book, a university

“An”: Use “an” before words that begin with a vowel sound.
Example: an apple, an hour, an umbrella

✨Note: The choice between “a” and “an” is based on the sound that follows the article, not the actual first letter. For example, “an hour” is correct because “hour” starts with a vowel sound, despite the “h” being a consonant.

“The”: “The” is a definite article used to specify a particular object or person that is already known or can be identified from the context.
Example: the cat in the hat, the Eiffel Tower, the sun

These tiny words wield immense power in English. Share your tips or favorite examples in the comments below! 🗣️
