Tell me of a good or even ok prison library anywhere
Volunteers are trying to get books into the L.A. County Jail, which has no library A volunteer effort is under way to get books into the Los Angeles County Jail, which has no library. Research shows reading helps lower recidivism rates.
FINALLY. After 6 weeks my visitation form for Wakulla Correctional institution in Florida has been approved so I could send $ for my Trans friend [Starr "married my Gay penpal of 6 years) to buy stuff. She lost 20 pounds because they don't feed you except the legal # of calories, which can be made up of mostly grits. So they need commissary food, which they mostly buy as Ramen a salty but cheap food. [You can trade a blow job for one package) Which, if you can't afford a little electric T pot they eat cold. She [Starr] finally got a razor (she's officially categorized as Trans inside) & "boots" because inside they give you horrible knock-off crocs. And soap. Inside they sq**rt a tablespoon of foul industrial green liquid soap into one of those tiny paper pill "cups."
She first had to deduct a bill for xeroxing legal forms & and the law library doesn't give any legal help even finding a form.
I've sent her the maximum # of books they can have. Which is 4! [After a Bible & Dictionary that leaves 2] I sent an infographics text on finance because the teacher [other prisoners!] Had nothing after 1980, and she's taking a finance class. The teacher thanked me on the phone.
I think I spent a solid 12 hours just trying to get the visitation form processed. Imagine how it is for those who don't bulldog this, God forbid know they're supposed to have them completed in thirty days. Without a visitation form you can't send $.
Couldn't get her new glasses yet and she needs bifocals so she finally got reading glasses. Sending large print books is not easy...had she gotten new glasses they're huge 1980s frames which distort if you need anything other than standard vision and I'm still fighting to buy ones from the crap vision Nurse!
During some shakedown someone stepped on hers, and you can't get a replacement unless a guard registers it. Oh hahaha.
So... one battle down. Next will be months...

Article on the gouging of for profit prison calls. Frankly I'm totally confused about funding calls in Florida prisons [not jails] Securus won't give me pricing up front and billed me for a call never made immediately. $20
