🎉Diabetes management: my personal tips to make life easier! 🎉

1. Keep your diabetes supplies in the same place.
2. Exercise in the morning (I never skip that one. It makes my BG stable for the whole day!)
3. If you use two insulin pens, mark one of them very clearly. (So, you don’t inject the wrong one!)
4. Don’t be a perfectionist. Keep trying!
5. Make sure you have a sugary drink, glucose tabs or glucose gel packs on you all the time. (I always carry honey packs everywhere!)
6. Go see your endocrinologist. Even if you don’t like it.
7. Try low-carb.
8. Always test right before eating and bed.
9. Always carry back-up supplies.
10. Try a continuous glucose meter (CGM) like the . It is my life saver!
11. Follow pages like mine for more diabetes inspiration!

Celebrating the last day of summer 2021 in my favorite outfit!👙

I am also celebrating 22 years of living with diabetes in a few weeks. It’s almost surreal to me!
I remember when I first got diagnosed with diabetes at a young age and what the doctors told me. They told me that I should avoid sugary food at all costs. They told me that high blood sugar levels are very dangerous and that if I did not control my blood sugar, I would end up losing everything…my sight, my limbs, my kidneys, and my life eventually.
And that really scared me. So, I did what I could to try to control it.
But growing up with diabetes, we did not have the tools that we now have to achieve better blood glucose control. We now have so many different insulin pump options featuring hybrid Closed-Loop Technology and some being tubeless. There are continuous glucose monitors, insulin inhalers, super fast acting insulins and super long acting insulins…
And I tried many of them.
But one technology that I can not live without is the Dexcom. Now with the Dexcom G6 Continuous Glucose Monitoring (CGM) System, I can make better diabetes treatment and diabetes management decisions with zero fingerstick and no scanning. Each transmitter last up to 10 days.
The Dexcom G6 let me see my glucose numbers — with just a quick glance at my smart device and receiver. I also Get alerted when my glucose levels are heading high or low and I can even share my data with up to 10 followers.
.
To me, this is a lifesaver especially at night when my blood sugar is low.
.
What is one diabetes technology you can’t live without?

Honestly, Who doesn’t love a realllllly extra moist zucchini bread?? 😋
I tweaked my old recipe this time to make it more packed. I recently started biking up and down hills and I do feel that I need WAY more proteins during the day....
This version is vegan, no refined sugar, no gluten and just no B.S.
I replaced the regular flour with Quinoa flour and Almond flour and subbed the sugar for one banana! 👊🏻
PS: 20g of carbs per large slice!
Let me know if you guys want to recipe!! ⚡️😋
PSS: Kids-approved!!

This little girl is my superhero.
She teaches me everyday about solar system, gravity, friendships, witches, rob-lox, gaga-ball…everyday is a new subject!
She cuddles, hugs and kisses me more than I’d ever received in mu life. She never fails to bring me back to the present moment. A simple embrace. A sweet kiss. A hold of hands.
She forgives me instantly when I make mistakes or get angry or have a bad day. She have a way of turning my “bad moods” into a silly laughter.
She sure knows how to make me laugh when I take myself too seriously.
She cares for me and my diabetes like no one else does. She makes sure I have an apple juice box in my purse before we leave, “just in case” she says.
She maturely accepts that mama has her special “diabetes treats”and that she is not allowed to eat them. She tells me she wants diabetes too because I am cool and she wants to be cool too. Her love is so pure and innocent and it often brings me to tears. I love her so much.
She tells me everyday that I am the best mom “for her” and that I am perfect. Perfect for her she says.
Her words cuts through me every time. Why can I not see myself this way??
How crazy is that?
She is 6 years old.
She is a real life angel. My angel. My life is better and lighter when she is around.
She is my best best of friend. Sometimes, when we talk, I can’t help but wonder what I’ve done to deserve such a precious human being in my life?

Hello Omnipod!!! 👀
I started insulin-pump therapy today with an .
Although this is not my first time on an insulin-pump ( I was a previous Medtronic user), being on a pump again feels much better this time around.

After using my previous medtronic pump for 7 years and during my 2 pregnancies, I felt like I needed a break from all the beeping alarms, all the site changes, the bended cannula and the clogged infusion sets. But mostly, I needed a break from having a device on me at all times.
So I took a 3 years sabbatical from it which was liberating and even empowering for a while.

But in the last year (maybe I can blame too 🙄), my recent Glycated hemoglobin ( Hemoglobin A1C ) came back a little higher than usual and it got me thinking about trying perhaps a new insulin pump.
I finally decided on the Omnipod for various reasons and so far I am happy with my decision.
If you are wondering about the Omnipod, you can read in my comments the pros and cons that I found very useful during my investigation period.

Let me know if you have any questions!

Don’t you feel like a 🦄 sometimes?
I wondered, for so long after my diagnostic, why I had the disease? Did I eat too much sugar growing up? Did God wanted to teach me a lesson?
But, in reality, the exact cause of type 1 diabetes is unknown. Usually, the body's own immune system — which normally fights harmful bacteria and viruses — mistakenly destroys the insulin-producing (islet, or islets of Langerhans) cells in the pancreas.
Other possible causes include:

🧬Genetics
🦠Exposure to viruses and other environmental factors ( A significant number of viruses have been associated with type 1 diabetes, including enteroviruses such as Coxsackievirus B (CVB) , but also rotavirus, mumps virus, and cytomegalovirus.
When I finally understood that diabetes can impact anyone, I started accepting that it is part of my life and that, yes, I am ok being or feeling like a 🦄 sometimes! 😁

I know, I have been missing in action lately...
We just moved into our new home in Boston and had to drive from Florida with our two kids. Ya. Fun. 😒
Diabetes was hard to control with the lack of movement and good food. I’ll write a post about that soon.
But the good news is, my kids are now back to school so you will get plenty of me!!😂
Hope everyone is good and healthy!

👾How is your "inner" dialogue going?🦾

Your ‘internal dialogue’ is quite simply your thoughts. It is the little voice in your head that comments on your life, whether that is what is going on around you, or what you are thinking consciously or subconsciously.

All of us have an internal dialogue, and it runs all the time. Some of us, however, may pay more attention to it than others, and be more skilled at manipulating it. It is the way in which you apply logic to what is happening, although the logic may sometimes be skewed or driven by your emotions or experiences.

Internal dialogue is part of what makes us human, and particularly gives us the ability to reason and think about situations.

But what you think, and the language you use, can affect your mood, self-confidence and self-esteem.

Negative self-talk is something everyone does. But I've noticed that for people with , it's much more common.

Managing the inner dialogue is crucial and is something I like to work on with my clients. Here is what I like to focus on:

1) Becoming Aware of Your Internal Dialogue : Before you can manage your internal dialogue, you first need to become more aware of it.

2) Changing Your Internal Dialogue: Once you have become more aware of what you are thinking, and the kinds of patterns that your thoughts tend to make, you can then do something about changing them, if necessary.

3) Try to Think Positively, not Negatively. Change the pattern. Focus on what you are doing well.

4) Try to Live in the Present. Do your best. Trust the process.

5) Be Grateful for What You Have. Appreciate where you are at now in your life.

And remember, Controlling Your Internal Dialogue Takes Time and Practice!
