The approach I describe in my book is a “cycles” method which applies small, consistent actions over time. Changing speech is a skill that takes time but like learning any new skill or concept, breaking it down into smaller parts makes it less intimidating and more manageable.

It’s time for many people to go back to school either as students or professors, or the combination of both as teaching and research assistants. Maybe you’re starting a new job, have recently moved, or are just in a situation where you will be talking to new people. That means talking to people who are new to listening to your particular accent or way of speaking.
Once they have had more time to listen to you, they’ll be more familiar with your style of speaking and their brains will adapt to small differences. However, there are some things you can do to help express your meaning more clearly to get off to a good start.
