One of the slides for my presentation tomorrow:

This dynamic virtual series brings together innovative educators, researchers, and community leaders to explore how hip-hop can be used as a powerful tool for education, identity, and social change.

Featured Session Highlight: “Voicing Disability: Hip Hop as a Lens on Race, Labeling, and Special Education"

Presented by Dr. Mildred Boveda
In this session, participants will:

*Explore the parallels between the history of hip-hop and special education
*Examine how hip-hop artists can be understood as curriculum theorists
*Gain insight into culturally sustaining and inclusive teaching practices

Thank you to everyone who joined us yesterday at the Wake Up the Earth Festival! It was so wonderful to see so many of our longtime families and friends, and to meet so many new people as we built community through creating art together.

Our project was a community mural made of individual collages inspired by the quote, “Art is not merely telling it like it is, but imagining what is possible,” by bell hooks. Alternatively, participants could create a collage celebrating the festival. We invited everyone to reflect on possibility—and all the many things that can mean.

Learners at the Center feels so grateful to have been part of such a rainy, magical day!

We still have just a few spots left in our summer program, and we’re now welcoming new clients for Fall 2026. Sign up now and share your Wake Up the Earth project for a discount!
