🍎 **Back-to-School Season Is Here! 5 Easy Tips for a Stress-Free Start**

A new school year means a fresh start! Getting simple habits in place right now helps lower stress, build confidence, and set the stage for a great year ahead.

**1. Create a Home "Study Spot"**
Pick a quiet, comfortable space stocked with basic supplies. Having a dedicated spot helps signal to the brain that it’s time to focus—and makes finishing homework much faster!

**2. Tame the Schedule with a Simple Planner**
Whether using a paper planner, a wall calendar, or a phone app, writing down assignment due dates and upcoming tests keeps surprises at bay.

**3. Stick to a Daily Routine**
Consistency is key! Setting aside a specific time block each day for reading and assignments leaves plenty of guilt-free time for sports, hobbies, and relaxation.

**4. Keep Folders and Notebooks Organized**
Color-coding subjects or using clear dividers keeps notes easily accessible. An organized backpack means no lost homework or last-minute morning panics.

**5. Ask Questions Early**
If a topic feels tricky, reach out right away! Getting a little extra guidance early on keeps small mix-ups from growing into big frustration later.

🎯 New Year, New Scores: How to Set Academic Goals That Actually Stick.

When students set New Year’s resolutions, they usually sound like: "I want a higher SAT/ACT score" or "I want an A in AP Calc."

While those are great targets, they are outcomes, not actions. Without a roadmap, outcome goals usually fizzle out by February.

The school year is much the same! To help your student actually hit their targets this year, try Reverse-Engineering the Goal:

* Step 1: Define the Target. Write down the exact score or grade goal. (e.g., "Improve SAT math score by 80 points.")

* Step 2: Break it into Skills. What concepts are standing in the way? (e.g., Advanced Algebra and Data Analysis.)

* Step 3: Build the Weekly Action. Turn the goal into a recurring calendar event. (e.g., "I will solve 15 algebra practice problems every Tuesday and Thursday at 4 PM.")

By shifting the focus from the final score to the weekly habit, the big, intimidating test becomes a series of small, highly manageable tasks.

💡 What are your student's big academic goals for the upcoming year? Don't let them guess their way to a higher score. Reach out and let’s map out a customized action plan together!

What are you currently reading? I SHOULD be reading Tangerine for school (not yet!). I just finished We Have Always Lived in the Castle (love). And I'm working on Napoleon's Buttons....

Any recommendations?

Summer is a great time to build skills for testing. As a certified Louisiana ELA teacher, I provide specialized instruction for a wide range of assessments—including high school and college entrance exams, annual state testing, and the ASVAB.

Every session is designed to deliver a competitive edge by mastering two critical areas:

Core Content Knowledge: Deepening the essential reading and analytical skills required for the exam.

Universal Testing Strategies: Developing powerful pacing and test-taking tactics that apply to any test.

If you are ready to build confidence and boost scores, simply reply here to coordinate the next steps and set up a schedule!

Good morning from West Michigan! I'm realizing that we adults can lose momentum in the summer, just like our kids. What strategies are you using to stay sharp?

Feelings are already strong about state testing. What do we do if the test is not reflective of what is taught? Thankfully, my Regents student achieved Mastery on her Biology (and Algebra 1) exam, but we've prepped for months.

Timothy Eagen, President of Suffolk County School Superintendents Association said "This is a complex issue that deserves thoughtful examination from multiple perspectives"
